💗 Amelia’s Story — Why We Created Amelia’s Army

She was kind, caring and incredibly thoughtful. She felt things deeply, never liked to see anyone left out and always wanted to help people. She hated seeing anyone struggle or feel upset, and she would always try to do something — however small — to make things better. That was simply who she was.

In May 2024, our world changed when Amelia was diagnosed with an aggressive brain tumour. A Midline diffuse glioma . Just a few weeks later, in July, we were given the devastating news that no parent ever expects to hear — we were told our daughter may only have around 12 months.

From that moment, our lives became appointments, treatments, hospital visits, uncertainty and trying to make every moment together count.

Amelia went through radiotherapy and different treatments, including a clinical trial. Through everything she faced, she remained Amelia — caring about the people around her and showing a strength that made us incredibly proud.

On 22 November 2025, after an 18-month battle, we lost our beautiful girl.

There are no words that can properly explain what losing a child does to a family. And grief doesn’t end when the hospital appointments stop.

Families still have to somehow carry on. Brothers and sisters are grieving too. Bills still arrive. Parents may be unable to work. Funeral costs can become overwhelming. Even accessing counselling and emotional support can take months, with waiting lists often far too long for families who need help immediately.

No family should have to struggle alone while they are grieving the loss or illness of their child.

We want Amelia’s Army to help take away some of that burden and lighten the load, even if only in a small way. We want to help parents and siblings access counselling and emotional support sooner, and help fund the care they need. We want to be able to pay a council tax bill, help with a food shop, contribute towards funeral costs or provide practical support in whatever way a family needs most.

Sometimes, taking away one financial worry can give a family the space to grieve in peace.

That is where Amelia’s Army came from.

We wanted to create something in Amelia’s name that reflected the person she was — someone who could never stand by and watch people struggle without trying to help.

Our aim is to support families after the illness and loss of a child, whether they have been affected by a brain tumour or another terminal illness. We want to provide practical, emotional and financial support, helping families through the moments when life feels impossible and making sure they do not have to face them alone.

And there is something very important to us:

A family will never be expected to share their story publicly in return for help.

Their grief is theirs. Their privacy will always be respected.

We wish more than anything that we never had a reason to create Amelia’s Army.

But because we do, we want something good to grow from the love Amelia gave to everyone around her.

We want her kindness to continue. We want her compassion to reach families she never had the chance to meet. And we want her legacy to be one of comfort, support and hope — helping to make the unbearable feel just a little lighter.

This is just the beginning of Amelia’s Army. 🩷
