I've got gadgets and gizmos a plenty.... but they can't replace a sports massage.
Compression boots
Massage guns
Roller sticks
Foam Rollers
Spikey Balls (of various shapes and sizes)
There are a number of great tools out there to help reduce tension within the muscles and improve circulation, however they don't replace the hands of work of a sports massage therapist.
Compression boots are a fantastic tool to use post exercise to encourage lymphatic drainage, however they are not targeted to any ni**les or areas that may need extra attention.
Massage guns are a great tool to stimulate blood flow, the percussive striking of the tissue is great to awaken muscles as well as the nervous system ahead of an activity, but again they lack sensitivity and are often over used. They cannot assess an injury or ni**le and can often cause more irritation than is needed.
Roller sticks, foam rollers and spikey balls are a great self massage tool for myofascial release, aiming to reduce tension, however people often find these too uncomfortable or awkward to use.
Sports Massage is more than just easing tension, assessment and expertise cannot be replaced by these tools so if you are struggling with an injury, get it assessed early on to help speed up your recovery!

Meet Sarah, our prankster & joker!
Sarah joined the clinic in 2019 full time after training with MSK Therapy Training, completing both her level 3 & level 4 sports massage qualifications.
She’s currently awaiting hip surgery for a grade 3 labral tear. When she’s not in clinic, she can be found in the gym or spending quality time with family & friends 💙
I shared a post the other day ‘you don’t need another anti ageing cream, you need a barbell’ and it got me thinking…
Did you know women spend more on what they look like on the outside, than what they look like on the inside? As females, we spend more on anti ageing creams, beauty products, Botox, fillers, tweakments and injectables than we do on our health?
To me, that sets the alarm bells ringing.
We’re more worried about preventing the wrinkles than osteoporosis, we’re more worried about our lips being bigger than our biceps (slight exaggeration but you see where I’m going with this), we’re more worried about the weight on the scales than the weight of the shopping bags we can carry in one trip from the car.
The anti-ageing we should be worrying about is how we prevent the muscle mass loss that starts around the age of 30, which then begins to impact our bone density. The collagen production that slows down and impacts our skin, also impacts our joint health.
As I approach my 40s, I’m training to be functional, in both strength and cardiovascular fitness and I believe more women should be too. Keeping your muscles strong reduces your risk of falling and also reduces your chance of osteoporosis by helping to maintain bone density. Training your heart and lungs reduces your blood pressure, it increases the oxygen to your brain to protect cognitive function and it reduces your risk of heart attacks and strokes. Reduce your risk of back pain from poor posture by strengthening postural muscles.
There are so many anti aging benefits from keeping strong and active. I fear with the ‘skinny tok’ trend coming back, the risks of sarcopenia and osteoporosis will be higher due to lack of nutrition to support the muscles and bones.
Train the basics, eat well and the rest will look after itself.
Your health is an investment. Your health is your future. Don’t take it for granted.

We’ve had an awesome couple of days working with Scottish Swimming at their holding camp ahead of the Commonwealth Games that starts this week!
Delighted to be asked back again but where did the last four years go?
Who’s excited for the games? Anyone heading down to watch some events in Glasgow?
Good luck to all the athletes competing!!

Meet Lucy, our dog obsessed bride to be!
If you know Lucy, you’ll know she’s a fan of dogs more than people 😂. Lucy joined the MSK team in 2024 and has been an awesome addition to the clinic.
When she’s not in clinic, she is usually found roaming around the outdoors with some dogs in tow or planning her next DIY project.
Ps the way crisp diet coke is the way to her heart 💙

It’s been a while since we introduced the team, so let’s get started with the boss.
Jayne is the boss and owner of MSK Therapy & Sports Injury Clinic, Aberdeen and has been here since day one. When she’s not in clinic, she is usually found in the gym or up a hill 😂
She’s highly competitive, but truly supports your goals and will be your biggest cheerleader! 🥳

🌞Summer is here
As much as we want you to enjoy the weather, we also want you to protect your skin!
We cannot massage you if you are sunburnt, as we do not want to cause more harm to radiated skin. Please remember your sun cream, if you are showing signs of sunburn, we will have to reschedule your sports massage.

Did you know…
MSK is an award winning clinic? Little throwback to June 2018… MSK Therapy and Sports injury clinic won the health and wellbeing award at the Trend Awards.
The awards are not a popularity contest or a vote, it’s down to a panel of judges, that interview each finalist and really get to know and understand your business, your struggles and what you’re doing to overcome them. The award still means so much to the clinic and we couldn’t be prouder ☺️
Fast forward to November 2022, we were selected as a finalist for the Society Awards, again in the Health & Wellbeing category. Another incredible achievement for the clinic, to make it through lockdown and continue to grow our business.
MSK Therapy & Sports Injury Clinic, Aberdeen has had a few different locations over the years and changed focus a few times, and we are so grateful to our clients that have followed and moved with us over the years and continue to support and recommend our wee business 🫶🏻
