Connor and I headed off to Cleeves Cove this morning armed with head torches, gloves and far more enthusiasm than common sense. 🤣

We squeezed through caves, admired some incredible rock formations, spotted cave spiders (Connor’s favourite… not! 😂), got absolutely covered in mud, and somehow both made it back out alive!

Needless to say, ice cream afterwards was fully deserved. 🍦

Now it’s back to work…

I’ve just finished watching 𝗔𝗶𝘁𝗰𝗵: 𝗗𝗼𝗻’𝘁 𝗕𝗲 𝗔𝗳𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗱 on Netflix.

If you have even the slightest interest in travel, adventure or the human spirit, I’d really recommend it.

As someone who has attempted Kilimanjaro myself, I can honestly say it’s one of the most truthful portrayals I’ve ever seen of what the mountain is actually like.

People often describe Kilimanjaro as “just a walk.” Technically, there’s no climbing involved… but that doesn’t make it easy.

The altitude, the exhaustion, the freezing temperatures, summit night, the self-doubt, the emotions… this documentary doesn’t hide any of it. It shows just how physically and mentally tough it really is.

I spent most of second half of programme in tears because it brought so many memories flooding back. Anyone who has stood on that mountain, will probably recognise those feelings.

Whether you reach the summit or not, Kilimanjaro has a way of changing you.

A brilliant documentary. One of the most honest accounts I’ve watched.

Instead, we somehow ended up spending the day at Edinburgh Zoo! 🦒🐧

I’d never seen a capybara in real life before and genuinely had no idea they were that big! The giant anteaters were amazing, and the tiny armadillo racing around on its little legs had us both laughing.

It was such a good day - I guess sometimes the best adventures are the ones you never planned. 💜

Now it’s back to work tomorrow…

As it’s the last day of July, it’s also your 𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 to enjoy my current summer offers before they end.

Tonight I headed to the cinema to watch 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝗺! 𝟭𝟬 𝗗𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗖𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗮.

I expected a nostalgic trip back to the 80s.

Instead, I walked out feeling…𝗩𝗘𝗥𝗬 𝗢𝗟𝗗. 😂

Not because of Wham!, but because it made me realise just how much China has changed during my lifetime.

I remember when their 1985 concerts made world headlines because China was a country very few people visited. Western pop music was virtually unknown, and many people had never experienced a concert like that before. Watching the audience trying to work out whether they were “allowed” to clap, move, or even risk being arrested for dancing would seem so alien to most of us today.

Then I found myself thinking… 𝟮𝟴 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘀 𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿, I was standing on that very same Great Wall, walking through the Forbidden City and across Tiananmen Square. That incredible transformation happened within my lifetime.

The other thing that really struck me was George Michael and Andrew Ridgeley themselves. They were only 𝟮𝟭 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝟮𝟮 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘀 𝗼𝗹𝗱 when they were dropped into such a unique and unfamiliar situation. Looking back now, it’s incredible how well they handled it. Nowadays an artist visiting a country like China would have a huge team around them - management, lawyers, security, publicists, interpreters and local organisers - all helping them navigate the cultural and political complexities.

𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗱𝗶𝗱 𝘁𝗲𝗲𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗺𝗲 𝗻𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘀𝗲 𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝗵𝗼𝘁 𝗔𝗻𝗱𝗿𝗲𝘄 𝗥𝗶𝗱𝗴𝗲𝗹𝗲𝘆 𝘄𝗮𝘀?! 🤣
