Wig and Weaves

This bespoke piece took six weeks to make — built from scratch on a head mold, hand-stitched using a whipping technique for a stronger, more secure base. Designed specifically for her, with her FFA and where her hair loss is heading, not just where it is now.

There were nights I worked till dawn to get this finished in time, around family life and school holidays. All of that led to this moment.

This piece took me back to why I love what I do.

A frontal topper, built completely from scratch on a head mold, using mesh fabric as the base. The T-shaped closure is a separate piece — for a client with FFA (frontal fibrosing alopecia), that had to be specially made and we waited six weeks for it to arrive.

Every stitch on this piece is done using a technique called whipping, instead of traditional hand sewing. It’s a stronger, more secure way of building the base.

The T-shape means the front can be secured with tape along the hairline, with an optional headband at the back for extra security. There are also clips around the base — these help secure it further, and give coverage as her hairline continues to recede backward.

Then came the part nobody sees — nights working till dawn, squeezing it in around family time and the school holidays, because I wanted it finished in time for her.

Every hair loss journey is different. This client tried a Halo Topper, tried on wigs, went away to think, came back wearing a small topper she’d found herself — and together we worked out what she really needed.
