🤍 A little personal skincare reminder…

At the beginning of this year, I experienced perioral dermatitis myself.

So what actually is it?

Perioral dermatitis is an inflammatory skin condition that usually appears around the mouth and can sometimes affect the nose and eyes too. It can look like small red or skin-coloured bumps, redness, dryness, sensitivity or irritation, and it can sometimes feel itchy or burning.

And the frustrating thing is, there isn’t always one obvious cause.

It can be associated with things such as skincare products, irritation, topical steroid use, hormonal changes and other triggers — but sometimes it can seem to appear completely out of the blue.

As someone who works with skin every day, I even found myself wondering, “What have I done wrong?”

But that’s what I really want to share with you:

Sometimes it’s simply not your fault. 🤍

Skin can change. Hormones change. Our bodies change. Stress, our environment and products we once tolerated can all play a part.

My own experience reminded me why I’m so passionate about taking a gentle, individual approach to skincare. When your skin is struggling, it doesn’t necessarily need more products or more treatments. Sometimes it needs less, patience and understanding.

And if you’ve ever experienced a flare-up and blamed yourself for it — please don’t.

You’re not failing your skin. 🤍

If you have persistent redness, irritation or bumps around the mouth, nose or eyes, it’s worth speaking with your GP or a qualified healthcare professional for an appropriate diagnosis and advice.
