We hope you've had a great week, and are still enjoying the contents of your last box if you had one.

We have the usual changes in what's available to us, and variations in the prices, so if you've already placed an order be sure to check you're happy with any changes.

You can CLICK HERE https://bakewellorganics.ooooby.org/to see the contents of the boxes next week.

Local beans and peas becoming more available now, with broad beans and sugar snaps from Moss Valley and French/green beans from Sheffield Organic Growers.

The Spanish cherries are available again, having been excellent last time. We also have a different variety of Japanese golden plums, as well as Santa Rosa red plums and grapes both black seeded and white seedless.

On the veg side, we have the popular charlotte potatoes back on sale.

Herbs, spices etc

At this time of year we have a good range of fresh herbs and spices, mostly collected from the farms near Sheffield on the morning of the co-op. As fresh as you can get without growing them yourself! This week we've added a couple of basil varieties, sorrel and chervil (French parsley).

We hope everybody is enjoying this weeks contents of the boxes and everything survived the heat! We done what we could with extra ice packs in the boxes so we hope all orders were received and everybody is happy.

Today we also realised we also are in urgent need of new volunteers to come along and help us. If you have a spare fortnightly Thursday, have a passion for chemical free and organic fruit, veg, eggs, honey, milk, unfortified bread and more then you would fit in well!
Volunteers start from 8am until around 1pm or later if needed, which include unloading stock, if your up to it, weighing goods, completing orders and generally just getting stuck in to what ever needs doing. We have a amazing team already but now we could do with some extra hands.

It is a volunteer role but we do reward you with a discount to start with and then after 3 months volunteering you get a fruit and veg box of your choice for your help every fortnight.

The next Bakewell Organics is Thursday 9th July, at Bakewell Agricultural centre. If you can help and can commit to fortnightly Thursdays, please contact - [email protected]

Thanks

We hope your all looking forward to your fresh
Bakewell Organics orders tomorrow and thought we would update you all, it’s been a while 😅🥒🌽🥕

We've had a lot of subscribers asking us about the new rules coming in requiring addition of synthetic folate to flour, and how it will affect breads, so we are trying out an unfortified organic loaf from Parkers Real Bread in Rotherham.

Parkers bake organic generally, but for this particular loaf, the Yorkshire Country Sourdough, they use flour milled by the farm that grows it, and they are below the threshold for requiring fortification, so their flour is guaranteed no additives. Parkers have also said they will pick up some 1.5kg bags for us next time they collect a batch for baking.

We're also trying their focaccias, organic garlic & grana padano and organic sea salt & rosemary this week. These use standard organic flour.

Grapefruits cancelled, alternatives available

The grapefruits originally on offer were cancelled by the supplier (apparently they are at the end of their season in Spain and the quality was not good enough), so if you have ordered them, that order will have been zeroed. However we have been able to source some alternatives from Corsica, which we hope will be better quality, albeit a little pricier:

A couple of items that were not on sale when we sent out the email last week:

Spring greens, organic, from New Farm in Lincolnshire

Golden ball turnips, from Sheffield Organic Growers

A few new items this week: honey from Staffordshire (both clear and set), and a few other items we haven't had in for a while (fennel, kohl rabi, purple sprouting broccoli).

Easter specials

Still here for this co-op and the next only. Hot cross buns from Authentic Bread (mini fig & honey 6s and the traditional 4s - order by tonight as we have to order a week in advance), together with Easter chocolate minis from Joy of Nutrition.

Bread orders by tonight

We can also supply bread from Paul's Organics in Melton Mowbray, which is distributed nationally. See their loaves in the Bread section: spelt sourdoughs in 400g and 800g, a beetroot sourdough 400g, wholewheat sourdough 800g and an 800g sechskorn yeasted loaf. However, we have to order the Paul's loaves by first thing this Thursday morning, so if you want to try them, you'll have to get them on your order by this evening!

Back in action after the first week off this year! Farmacy/Bakewell Organics operates on a fortnightly cycle, where the week in between delivery weeks is spent ordering the produce for the following week's co-op, updating the info on the website etc. Then all the preparation for the packing and distribution is done in the week of the delivery co-op.

Obviously a few Christmas-related products added this week (see our temporary Christmas Favourites section, for some mince pies and Christmas puds from The Authentic Bread Company, cranberries, chestnuts, horseradish, and a couple of mustards and relishes to go with Christmas dinners), as well as the usual seasonal produce.

Early ordering deadlines for the Authentic Bread Co and also for Paul's Bakery, so very limited numbers on the former, and orders need to be in by tonight for Paul's.

New system interface

First full cycle on the new Ooooby system, so we're all getting used to a slightly different layout.

As always, any problems, email us on [email protected].

Christmas & New Year co-op dates

Another three week gap over the Christmas and New Year, so the next co-op will be on January 8th. We'll be putting orders in for the produce for the 8th on Monday 29th, a day early because of the New Year holiday, so ordering for the next one should be live over the New Year.

Then back to the usual fortnightly schedule.
