I didn’t build my clientele by trying to fit more clients into the day.

I built it by learning to give each head of hair the time it actually needed.

Lockdown + Instagram changed the way clients found inspiration. Suddenly, people were coming in with very specific colour ideas — and I knew I could create them.

The problem? The traditional 45-minute booking system wasn’t designed for that.

So I started changing the way I booked appointments.

More time for the application.
More time for development.
More time for the finishing.

And eventually, my clients understood exactly what they needed to ask for when they booked.

That’s exactly how I managed to build up my clientele.

A little story about something I learned when I was 18 — and still believe today. ❤️

My first salon taught me that the energy you give to people is the energy you attract.

And after many years behind the chair, I can honestly say… my mentor was right. 😂

I was the shyest person…

So why did I choose to have BLUE SPIKY HAIR? 💙

People stared.

It was about me.

And 40+ years later choosing things I like, I finally understand what my mum was trying to tell me.

Sometimes hair doesn't just change how you look.
It changes how you see yourself.

The friendships we make at work are underrated.

You spend SO much of your life with these people.

Then one day…
they leave.

And suddenly, you realise
how much they were part of your everyday life.

Which makes me wonder…

Why create unnecessary drama
with people you spend most of your day with?

Be kind.

Because people don’t stay forever.

I never believed in “energy” until something very strange happened to me in the salon… 👀

A shoulder massage.
A very angry client.
A Reiki master.
And then suddenly… I was standing at a tap trying to understand why I felt like I was carrying someone else’s emotions.

Coincidence? Energy? Something else?

I honestly still don’t know. But I’ve never forgotten what happened that day.

Running your own business doesn’t mean you have to do everything at the same time.

For years, I thought being self-employed meant being the stylist, receptionist, promoter, content creator… and somehow doing all of it between appointments. 😂

But creating a proper booking system with an online pre-consultation completely changed the way I work.

No more squeezing clients into every little gap.

No more answering messages while I’m working.

No more trying to make decisions about someone’s colour while another client is sitting in my chair.

It gave me something I didn’t realise I needed:

space.

And that space means I can concentrate on the person in front of me and actually enjoy what I do.

This is a big part of why I chose to work one-to-one in my own studio.

Not everyone will like you.

Sometimes it’s because of your skin colour, your race, where you’re from, your personality… and sometimes, honestly, there’s no reason at all.

I’ve experienced bullying and people trying to put me down throughout my career. But eventually you learn that you can’t build your life around people who don’t like you.

Focus on your work. Focus on the people who support you. And most importantly, focus on becoming better than the person you were yesterday.

They might be trying to be better than you.

Don’t play that game.

Try to be better than yourself. ❤️

Before I ever coloured a client's hair, I had to earn the right to.

When I was a junior in São Paulo 🇧🇷, I trained in a traditional Japanese salon with one of the strictest training programmes I've ever seen.

Seven stages. Hundreds of models. Theory exams. Practical exams. Every haircut, blow-dry and even our breaks had to be signed off by a supervisor.

Some stages took months. Others took years.

At the time, it felt endless. Looking back, I'm incredibly grateful for it.

It taught me that beautiful hair isn't created by shortcuts. It's created by repetition, discipline and an obsession with getting the small details right.

Those lessons still shape every colour I create today, even thousands of miles away here in Northern Ireland.

People often think confidence comes first.

For me, it didn't.

When I started as a junior hairdresser in Brazil, I wasn't trusted with much. I questioned myself more times than I can count, but I kept showing up, kept practising, and kept believing that one day I'd earn the opportunities I was working so hard for.

Years later, the very person who doubted me apologised.

That conversation taught me something I'll never forget:

Never let someone else's opinion become your identity.

People will misjudge you. They'll underestimate you. They'll assume they know what you're capable of.

Keep learning anyway.
Keep practising anyway.
Keep going anyway.

One day, your work will speak louder than their opinion ever could.
