To Wash Or Not To Wash Before A Colour Service 🤔

Sitting on the other side of the salon chair for once, getting my own roots done and enjoying a rare moment to just switch off and people-watch… bliss!

It did get me thinking though—those sneaky greys can definitely get a bit more “stubborn” over time (and no, I refuse to believe I’m old enough for that 😅).

I remembered a lovely client who always has a rich dark brown—super shiny, healthy hair. But one visit, her parting just didn’t take the colour as well as usual. At first I thought, “Wow, those roots have suddenly become resistant!”
Turns out… she’d been using a root cover-up spray and hadn’t washed it out 🙈

So here’s the takeaway: while you’ll often hear “don’t wash your hair before a colour service,” that doesn’t mean turning up with product build-up or greasy roots. Clean-ish hair is key—otherwise it can block the colour and affect your results.
