Road users are reminded to expect some disruption to traffic in Bangor town centre today, Saturday 1st August, as the city hosts a number of events.

The 73rd Ulster Pipe Band Championships will take place in Ward Park between 11am and 6pm, while Bangor Beats and Rhythms comes to Holborn Square between 1pm and 9pm.

There will be a short, rolling parade of pipe bands from 6.15pm, which will proceed from Ward Park along Gransha Road towards Castle Street. It is expected that the parade will last around an hour. If you need to access the cinema/leisure centre during this time, please do so from Abbey Street/Castle Park Avenue.

Parking is available throughout the city, however it is expected that many people will travel to the area to enjoy the music.

We would suggest leaving the car at home where possible, and availing of public transport options including a shuttle service which will be in operation from a dedicated park & ride facility at the old NIE site on Balloo Road, with stops at Elim Church, Bangor Bus & Rail Station, Mill Row, Bangor Hospital and Bloomfield Shopping Centre.

We will have officers on the ground throughout the festivities, assisting with traffic management and ensuring the safety of all - we hope everyone enjoys a fantastic day out.
