Lip filler migration and why it’s important to talk about it 🤍

Lip filler can be a beautiful way to enhance the lips when it is carefully placed and tailored to the individual. But, like any aesthetic treatment, there can be complications and migration is one of them.

Migration occurs when dermal filler moves beyond the area where it was originally placed. You may notice fullness or a slight ridge above the natural lip border, sometimes creating what is commonly referred to as a “filler moustache.”

It’s important to say that lip filler migration does not automatically mean that someone has had too much filler or that their previous practitioner has done something wrong. There can be a number of contributing factors, including anatomy, product characteristics, previous treatments, repeated injections and how an individual’s tissues respond over time.

Sometimes the kindest and safest approach is to pause, dissolve migrated filler and allow the tissues to settle before considering whether any further treatment is appropriate.

This is exactly why I believe in taking a gentle, considered and natural approach to lip enhancement.

More filler isn’t always the answer. Sometimes, stepping back is what allows us to move forward beautifully. 🤍

For this patient, we carefully dissolved the migrated filler and allowed 3–4 weeks for everything to settle before gently reintroducing small amounts of filler.

The aim was never to create bigger lips. It was to restore shape, definition and balance, whilst keeping the result beautifully natural. ✨

As we start moving towards the ‘ber’ months, there’s a little shift in the air. 🍂🍁
September is just around the corner, autumn is beginning to creep closer, and naturally our thoughts start to turn towards routines, resetting and looking after ourselves a little more intentionally.

And your skin is no different.

After a summer of sunshine, increased UV exposure, heat, SPF, swimming, travel, air conditioning, late nights and perhaps a slightly less consistent skincare routine, September can be such a beautiful time to pause, reassess your skin goals and give your skin a little reset.

And the lovely thing is… we still have four months left of the year.

That gives us something really valuable when it comes to skin: time.

Time to treat.
Time for your skin to respond.
Time to reassess.
And time to build on the changes with your next treatment.

Because beautiful skin doesn’t happen overnight.
Skin cell turnover takes time.
Collagen remodelling takes time.
Pigmentation, hydration, barrier health, texture and overall skin quality all respond to consistency, rather than one miracle treatment.

Thoughtfully planned treatments between September and December can create a very different journey to having one treatment now and another whenever you remember.

Not because more is always better.

But because consistency is where we begin to see meaningful change.

So perhaps September isn’t about starting again.

Perhaps it’s simply about taking a moment to pause, reassess and give your skin a little more intention for the rest of the year. 🍂🤍

There’s a common misconception that lip filler is all about adding lots of volume but it really doesn’t have to be. 🤍

For me, beautiful lip enhancement is about working with what you already have. Enhancing the natural shape, adding a little definition, subtly improving symmetry, and introducing small amounts of volume and hydration where it’s needed.

Sometimes, the most beautiful results are the ones that don’t look “done” at all. ✨

This result is a perfect example of how a small amount of carefully placed filler can beautifully enhance the lips while keeping them soft, balanced and completely natural-looking.
