We are seeing more clients arrive with silicone tape placed over incisions that are still scabbed, weeping or not completely closed.
Silicone tape is designed for scar management once the wound has fully healed it is not a dressing for an open incision.
Using it too early can:
❌ Trap excess moisture
❌ Soften and irritate fragile skin
❌ Pull away scabs or delicate healing tissue
❌ Hide leaking, redness or wound breakdown
❌ Potentially delay healing
There isn’t one set week that is suitable for everyone. Before starting, the incision should be fully closed, clean and dry, with no scabs, openings or leakage and you should have clearance from your surgeon or healthcare professional.
Please don’t copy someone else’s recovery timeline. Have your own incision assessed first.

Stem cell treatment for facelift scars what is it and why is it becoming popular?
This client had a face & neck lift in February this year and has recently visited her surgeon again for stem cell based injections to support the appearance of her facelift scars.
🔬 What is stem cell scar treatment?
Stem cells are special cells involved in tissue renewal and repair. In regenerative scar treatments, a preparation containing stem cells or cells and signalling factors intended to encourage regeneration is placed into or beneath the scar.
The aim is to support collagen remodelling and improve the quality of the surrounding tissue. It doesn’t remove or replace the scar but it may help it become softer, flatter and less noticeable over time.
💉 How is it done?
The exact procedure depends on the treatment being used. With some fat derived treatments:
A small amount of the client’s own fat is collected, usually from the abdomen or thigh
It is carefully processed to produce a regenerative preparation such as nanofat or stromal vascular fraction
The scar area is cleaned and numbed
Tiny amounts are injected along and underneath the scar
The regenerative cells and signalling factors are intended to support the tissue’s natural repair and remodelling processes
Some treatments use different sources or laboratory prepared products, so not everything advertised as stem cell treatments is the same or necessarily contains live stem cells.
Why are these treatments becoming more popular?
They offer a targeted treatment for delicate facelift scars around the ears and hairline
Some use regenerative material obtained from the patient’s own body
They may help improve scar texture, softness, colour and flexibility
They may support collagen production and healthier-looking skin
They may help with firm, tight or tethered scar tissue
Some can also improve small dents or contour irregularities around a scar
They are less invasive than surgical scar revision
More patients are becoming interested in regenerative treatments that aim to improve the tissue itself rather than simply disguise the scar.

Why are surgical drains used?
Following procedures such as a tummy tuck or body lift, drains may be placed beneath the skin to remove blood and excess fluid from the surgical area.
They help to:
• Reduce fluid collecting beneath the skin
• Minimise swelling and pressure
• Allow the surgical team to monitor the amount and colour of the fluid
• Support the healing tissues while the space beneath the skin begins to close
Drains should only be removed when your surgeon confirms they are ready usually based on the amount being collected rather than how many days have passed.
If you have travelled abroad for surgery and need support once you’re home, we have a registered nurse available to assess and remove your drains, provided we have written authorisation from your surgeon and it is clinically appropriate to do so.
Let’s talk about Seromas!
A seroma is a collection of fluid that can develop in the space created underneath the skin after surgery such as a tummy tuck or liposuction.
The bigger the surgery and the more tissue that has been disrupted, the more swelling and fluid the body may have to manage during recovery.
This is where good post-op aftercare can be really valuable. Gentle lymphatic drainage can help manage swelling and support lymphatic flow, while regular appointments also allow us to monitor areas that are becoming unusually swollen, firm or fluid filled.
MLD cannot guarantee that a seroma won’t develop but good aftercare appropriate compression, movement and following your surgeon’s instructions can all support recovery and importantly, mean potential problems are picked up sooner.
Don’t wait until you have a problem to think about your aftercare. Book before surgery.

5 months post tummy tuck plus liposuction
Aftercare doesn’t necessarily stop once the early recovery stage is over. At 5 months, some clients still experience periods of swelling, tightness or fluid retention, particularly after busy days, travel or changes in activity.
Today was all about maintenance lymphatic drainage, supporting circulation and helping with that heavy, puffy feeling while her body continues to settle and remodel.
Maintenance appointments available for clients at any stage of their post-op journey.
If you are over 8 weeks post-op when booking you can select standard lymphatic drainage massage.
