If you’re going from a dyed level 3 (very dark brown/soft black) back to blonde, the first phase is usually about controlled removal of artificial pigment, not trying to “get blonde” in one session.

What you’ll typically see after the first lift:

* Underlying warmth exposed: red → red-orange → orange
* Uneven bands if there’s old colour build-up
* A result somewhere around level 5–7 depending on colour history and hair integrity

* Artificial colour does not lift like virgin hair
* Cool level 3 dyes often leave a strong red/orange residual pigment
* High-volume developer alone is not the answer — saturation, sectioning, timing, and porosity management matter more Being realistic with your client.
