Some great news to share with you all.

We'll soon be moving into new premises just 20 metres along the street. This is a lovely step for us and we're very excited!

We will have our own dedicated space and treatment rooms but sharing the building with Basingstoke Wellness, which means there will be even more extensive treatments available under one roof.

Our existing building is being sold and as our lease expires on 28th February, we're very happy that we have this opportunity to make a (very) short move into a purpose made new home (next door to Willows Coffee House).

The new space allows us to be part of a friendly, beauty-focused environment, while continuing to offer the same care, attention, and service you’re used to. Nothing about the way we work is changing, and all appointments and services will continue as normal.

We will call you if you have an appointment already booked with us, with updates and more info.

We’re really looking forward to settling into a space that feels supportive, collaborative, and welcoming, and we appreciate your continued support as we make this exciting next move. Definite dates to follow but we are aiming for 2nd March.

Please call if you have any questions at all. 01256 364706

Thank you for being part of our journey and we look forward to welcoming you to our home.

Thank you again,

Joanne, Beccie, Marta, Annabel, Georgia, Demi & Nancy

Dispelling Sun Myths Part 2

It is a common misconception that skin of colour doesn’t need sun protection however, skin cancer does not discriminate and can occur in skin of any colour.

Darker skin tones have a higher percentage of melanin (skin pigment) and this does provide some protection from UV exposure but, only really translates to an SPF of around 6 . So, not enough to protect the skin cells from DNA damage from sun exposure.

At the end of the (sunny) day, skin of colour is less susceptible to developing skin cancer but there is still a risk and all skin tones can are vulnerable to sun damaged. So, big hats, big sunglasses, big cover ups and big SPF’s!

If tiu are worried about any unusual lesions or moles or would like to discuss corrective treatments for sun damage..just drop us a line! We are here to help xx

Dispelling Sun Myths – Part 1

1. We should sunbathe because we all need vitamin D – True or False

False. There are two types of vitamin D D2 & D3. D2 is provided by a balanced and healthy diet that includes vitamin D rich foods such as egg yolks, oily fish and some fortified foods.

Vitamin D3 is synthesized in the skin via exposure to UVB radiation however, this type of UV burns the skin, so too much exposure poses a serious health risk.

So, the answer to this is, 10 – 15 minutes of UV exposure (outside of peak hours), only a few times a week, on arms or legs, is sufficient to produce all the vitamin D you need!

2. Using sunscreen will block my UV production.

Nope. There is no sunscreen on the market that can block 100% of UV radiation so you can stay protected AND get your Vitamin D boost.

3. Sunbeds are a good way to get more vitamin D.

Big fat nope…Sunbeds only emit UVA radiation, and it is UVB that your skin needs to synthesise vitamin D. SO it is not only dangerous to use sunbeds but totally pointless!

If you are worried about an unusual skin coloured lesion or a changing mole, then we can screen tis for you under our specialist cameras and a report from a consultant Dermatologist will email the results in under 48 hours.

A lovely write up in the local helping us spread the word on the dangers if sun damage. 🌞 💛🧡💛🧡💛

Since launching, the salons have already identified four potential skin cancers

Skin cancer warning issued for popular sunscreen that 'doesn't work' 20/06/2025

No sunscreen is 100% preventative. It is an aid to reducing UV radiation damage.

This is a really good article but the bottom line is, skin cancer kills nearly 20, 000 people a year and over exposure to UV light is unsafe. This is because increased UV exposure permanently damages the DNA in skin cells, leading to mutations that can become cancerous.

I've been referring clients for years to Go's with suspicious lesions and sadly, many of them get diagnosed as cancer.

When it comes to children, use sunscreen but also keep them covered. Sunscreen alone cannot prevent damage. Contrary to the 'celeb' in the article, research suggests no link with cancer. Unlike burning in childhood that increases your risk of getting skin cancer later in life.

Every time skin is burnt or tanned, the body records it. The damage cannot be undone. Prevention is always better that cure.

And don't get me started on sunbeds....

Stay safe out there. 💚💚💚💚
