One of my prized collection, the great Persian Daric of the Achaemenid empire. This NGC certified Daric was minted around 400-336 BC during the time of Darius III who would eventually be defeated by Alexander the Great. Darics are extremely rare due to the fact that large number of them were melted by the Greek administration to mint coins under Alexander’s name. There was so much gold in the Persian treasury that the value of gold coinage fell during that time . This Daric is a Carradice Type 3 B Daric showing the Achaemenid emperor with Bow and arrow and symbolised the emperor’s authority over the local kings. It was forbidden by local kings to mint coins in their own name in the Persian Achaemenid empire. Although Daric has a crude design but the history behind these coins is fascinating.

Phoenica Shekel of Tyre:
One of the most legendary ancient coins.
This coin was minted in the city of Tyre now in Lebanon from 126 BC to 65AD. Made from 94% silver and having the highest content of silver in those times ,the coin is related to bibical history for a number of reasons.

1. The Jewish temple tax ( started by Moses) was paid in this coin as it had the highest percentage of silver. Each year every person had to pay the temple half shekel silver as tax. One shekel like this coin was used to pay the tax for two people.

2. This coin was also mentioned in bible as the thirty pieces of silver used to bribe Judas for betraying Lord Jesus.

When I got this coin through an auction the first thing I did was to submit it to NGC for verification and yes its authentic!!The coin still retains its old cabinet tone signifying that it wasn't cleaned since it was minted( high value for numismatics) and retains all its intricate features.
