Velvet appeared in many of the designer collections for Autumn/Winter, notably Gucci and Miu Miu. It's a fabric that can be challenging, so opt for the darker shades. Shoes are making a grand statement in velvet at the moment - but don't be tempted to pair them with velvet trousers, velvet jacket - keep it to one piece. The Monsoon Verona dress caught my eye .

Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany's is the first image I think of when contemplating the perfect trench coat. It will always be a classic, yet every year it is reinvented, and this year there are some beauties. Burberry is the go to designer, but APC, Max Mara and Isabel Marant Etoile are also worth a look. On the high street, it's worth checking out Comptoir des Cotonniers, and Zara has a fabulous bright red short version. As the weather changes, wear your trench with another classic; the Breton top, a pair of boyfriend jeans, and a sharp pair of patent brogues.
