Hello 👋
As most of you will be aware last July I was diagnosed with mouth cancer and underwent major surgeries at the Luton & Dunstable Hospital.
During my time there I was cared for by the incredible team in Intensive Care. They took fantastic care of me and ensured I was as comfortable as I could be.
With a new acute service block being built there the Intensive Care Unit will be moving to a new area which can accommodate an outdoor space for patients, family and staff. The view is to create a quiet garden area which can be enjoyed while received critical care needed.
I would of loved the opportunity to have had outdoor time while I spent 12 days in Intensive Care which is what makes this charity so important to me because I can only hope I’ll never need to go there again but for future patients this will have a huge impact in their recovery.
I will be running a half marathon on Sunday to raise funds for this charity and to celebrate my one year post treatment. I would be grateful for any donations.

Hey Everyone,
I apologise for the radio silence and not getting back to you all. As you will be aware I was diagnosed with Squamous Cell Carcinoma of my tongue.
In July I underwent major surgery to remove 30% of my tongue, a neck dissection to remove lymph nodes, removal of skin, nerves and blood vessels of my left arm to form part of my tongue reconstruction and lastly I would have a skin graft from my stomach to replace the tissue take from my left arm.
Unfortunately, despite the surgery going well my newly formed tongue did not take which resulted in the tissue dying and an additional surgery required. My second surgery was traumatic to say the least, especially with it being an emergency surgery. However things looked hopeful again and I was to remain on the ventilator for the weekend to allow my body to recover.
Despite their best efforts the day I was woken up I quickly discovered that my ronstriction had failed again and further surgery was required, this time using my right arm and the removal of my Nala tattoo.
The third surgery was performed the next day and had serious complications. They discovered that my jugular vein had completely clotted and there was poor blood supply to my mouth which they believed was the reason for the previously failed flaps. Due to the blood clotting and my newly found blood condition that causes my body to over clot they weren’t able to complete the reconstruction and had no choice but to remove buccal fat to close the holes in my mouth.
The week after my surgery was incredibly hard, there was no further surgeries booked due to my blood condition and the consultants were keeping everything crossed that my mouth began to heal. I was not allowed any fluids or food during this time because I was high risk of forming infections due to the failed reconstruction.
Eventually after 12 days in intensive care, 14 days without fluid and 17 days without food I was able to begin sips of water and puréed food.
I self discharged to be at home with my girls after 18 days but sadly after 5 days with them my time was cut short when I was readmitted into hospital for suspected sepsis.
On the 11th August I was given the good news that the cancer had been removed and my lymph nodes were clear which means no further treatment!
I am now recovering at home, cancer free and navigating my way around my new normal. I plan to be back open soon - recovery depending but I just wanted to reach out to say I am missing you all and hope to see you when I reopen, if not for a catch up before 🩷
