Happy new year everyone 🥳
Finallyyyy after a very long time I have got around to fixing my website articles code and some improvements this week 😂 doing my day job in my free time is just no fun.
But good news is now I can start adding handy graphics, longer explanatory pieces, and more in an accessible place ! 😄

Lion’s mane / bearded tooth - Hericium erinaceus 🦁
A very rare mushroom across Europe, and one of the 3 legally protected species in the UK (Sch8 WCA 1981). They colonise dead or dying hardwood, especially ancient beech logs - and so they are particularly affected by habitat loss.
Note: yes, this is a particularly fancy H erinaceus as they sometimes form like this here in the UK - no, it is not the American H americanum before anyone goes there again 🤪

Made the base out of woven birch twigs in 2018, and then every year I just weave in various coniferous and planty clippings from my garden and nearby ☺️

These floofy cute fungi like conifers, and are sometimes mistaken for young lion’s mane / Hericium (which develops into spines and grows on hardwood like beech)

Bioluminescent reaction on a crust fungi 💙
UV torches are extra fun for fungi spotting - interesting seeing what reacts to the light in nature. Especially now the days are darker, earlier!

This mushroom was absolutely tiny 😍 smaller than half of my pinky nail
