Inflammation plays a role in many long-term health conditions and everyday symptoms including headaches, joint pain, digestive problems and hormone-related conditions.
I regularly share simple ways to help reduce inflammation naturally, including improving nutrition, increasing hydration and introducing anti-inflammatory foods such as turmeric and green superfoods.
Small daily habits often have a much bigger impact than people realise.

Your body is always communicating with you - headaches, bloating, fatigue, aching joints, digestive issues and hormonal symptoms.
We often feel these are things we have to simply "put up with", but they can be your body's way of asking for support. Self-care starts by paying attention rather than pushing through.
As a holistic therapist, I look at the whole picture rather than just one symptom, helping identify the underlying causes so your body has the opportunity to recover naturally.
Specialist massage with tailored recovery programmes can make a huge difference fast. Find out more today:

Headaches trigger 6 of 8: Magnesium Deficiency
About 3 or 4 times a year I have someone come into the clinic with a textbook magnesium deficiency - it's a really common deficiency. Your body uses more magnesium when you're under stress, physically active, living with certain health conditions, or if you're neurodivergent. As a result, deficiency can be more common than many people realise.
Common signs of magnesium deficiency include:
🟢 Headaches and migraines
🟢 Poor sleep
🟢 Stress and anxiety
🟢 Heart palpitations
🟢 Muscle cramps, aches and joint pain
🟢 Period pain
🟢 Restless legs
The good news is that there are several easy ways to boost magnesium levels. Choose a high-quality, bioavailable magnesium supplement, increase magnesium-rich foods in your diet, or consider magnesium sprays and bath salts as additional support.
If headaches are a regular issue for you, magnesium is one of the first things worth investigating.

triggers 6 and 8. Brain injury, eye issues and related scar tissue.
If headaches have been worse since you've banged your head or you are having intense visual disturbances then always go and get it checked by a doctor. Don't leave it and hope it clears up. Better safe than sorry.
If you've had a head injury sometimes the resulting scar tissue can really reduce blood flow and cause headaches. Scar massage is a great way to improve this problem and get everything flowing properly again.

Eye problems are also a common cause of headaches. Some issues can cause headaches such as BVD (binocular vision disorder - very common in people that are hypermobile or neurodiverse) or eye strain if your prescription is wrong. Get an eye test to make sure all is well.

Headaches trigger 5 of 8: Your Liver
When the liver is under extra strain, headaches can sometimes be one of the symptoms. Supporting your liver health can be an important part of reducing both the frequency and severity of headaches.
One of the simplest places to start is with hydration. Even mild dehydration is a common headache trigger, so making sure you're drinking enough water throughout the day can make a noticeable difference.
Other ways to support your liver include:
- Taking a quality milk thistle supplement.
- Adding a dark green superfood blend containing ingredients such as spirulina and chlorella.
- Reducing inflammation throughout the body.
- Cutting back on excess sugar and limiting unnecessary toxins to reduce the workload on your liver.

Headache trigger 4 of 8: Hormones
Hormonal changes are rarely the sole cause of headaches, but they can certainly make existing symptoms worse.
This is particularly worth considering if your headaches tend to occur at the same time each month, or if they're accompanied by fatigue, mood swings or other hormonal symptoms.
Supporting healthy hormone balance can often help reduce the frequency and severity of headaches while improving your overall wellbeing.

Headache trigger 3 of 8: Stress
Stress is always a big factor with headaches. The physical tension that comes with stress can often be the initial cause of a headache. However, regular headaches and migraines are stressful in themselves, meaning stress can quickly become a contributing factor even if it wasn't the original trigger.
Tackling stress isn't always an easy thing to do, but even small reductions can have a positive impact on headache frequency and intensity.

Headaches 2 of 8: Tension and muscular/skeletal issues and how to tackle it..
Healthy blood flow through the head, neck and shoulders is crucial if you want to avoid headaches. This means you have to avoid tension in the head neck and shoulder but also the back and arms. Nothing in the body works in isolation and tension in any of these areas can restrict blood flow to the head, resulting in a headache. The problem with headaches is they create and increase tension in these areas too. If it wasn't the initial cause it's likely to be part of the story now.
Massage is one of themost effective ways to address this problem and improve tension fast. ClearMind massage is tailored and targeted to address the specific problem areas for headaches. We also pinpoint where the

In some cases, additional support from an osteopath or chiropractor may be required to help realign everything or a physio to help strengthen certain muscles and keep everything in place.

Headache trigger 1 of 8: Inflammation
Inflammation is often a major factor behind headaches and migraines. In many cases, it's either the main cause or a significant contributor. For example, much of the discomfort from a hangover headache is actually caused by inflammation.
The single biggest thing that's usually making inflammation worse is too much sugar in our diets. Reducing your sugar intake can make a noticeable difference to both your overall health and the frequency or severity of headaches.
Are you getting sugar cravings? Making it harder to make changes? There's a way to tackle that too - balance the blood sugar and bring the cravings down.
Find out how here: https://discoverwellbeing.info/reduce-sugar-cravings/
In the meantime, try increasing your intake of turmeric – one of nature's most effective anti-inflammatory foods.
