A chai a day keeps the doctor away. Fancy another way of getting your daily dose of the golden wonder?

How about a warming mug of carrot and chai soup? I use a soup maker but this is just as easy cooked in a pan and blended.

Chop up the following

3 large carrots
1 stick celery
1 small leek
1 clove garlic
2 tomatoes

Add to this 3 cups of water.
1 chicken or vegetable stock cube
1 tbsp of ๐Ÿ’› Turmeric chai blend
Couple of pinches of salt

Pop all in the soup maker on the smooth setting.
Alternatively cook gently until the vegetables are soft and then blend till smooth!

If you want an extra dose of antioxidant add some chopped fresh chilli to your mix!

Hero ingredient......Cardamom

Yes you've guessed it, another fantastic anti inflammatory ingredient!
The effects of cardamon are valued particularly around gastrointestinal issues...as the anti inflammatory properties are very effective in protecting against stomach ulcers.
Also it's widely used to combat bad breath. This is down to the fact that it reduces swelling in the gums....a major cause of gum diseases and bad breath!
Did you know that Wrigleys use cardamon as a flavour in one of their chewing gums!
It is also a powerful antioxidant and is widely proven to lower blood pressure.

This is another of the beautiful natural ingredients in my Turmeric Chai blend ๐Ÿ’›

Many thanks to one of my regular customers Julie for her kind words...

"Lisa, thank you so much for using your food knowledge and putting together this magic little golden potion!
Not only does it taste delicious but after having a cup a day for the last 3 weeks my knee pain has gone from an 8/10 to a big fat zero โ€ฆ honestly Iโ€™m pain free and glad to get back into the gym and run again!
I would much rather enjoy this cup of chai than take a tablet - thank you so much, keep it coming โค๏ธโ˜•๏ธ โค๏ธ"

Hero ingredient.....coriander seed.

Another fantastic anti inflammatory ingredient!
Coriander is extremely high in vitamin K, which is the one that helps our blood to clot.
It is proven to aid in bone repair too which reduces the risk of osteoporosis, so particularly beneficial to women who are menopausal or peri menopausal.
There is evidence now that coriander also can lower blood pressure and cholesterol which reduces the risk of heart disease.
Whats more..there are many studies being done into the effects on coriander on the brain. It is widely believed to reduce brain inflammation and to improve memory! These studies will hopefully be able to prove this in the near future.

So ground coriander is used widely in Asian dishes, but did you know it can make a wonderful addition to lots of dishes in the following way...

Take a handful of coriander seeds and toast them in a dry frying pan. (Just cook them gently over a low heat...moving them around...until they become a golden toasty colour!).
Then pop them into a pestle and mortar (ideally....though a blender will do) with a tsp of sea salt and a tsp of paprika. Crush and grind all together to a rough powder and then store in a small jar. This is amazing sprinkled on jacket potato's...chips...as a meat rub...on salads. Anything really!
Another way to add natural anti inflammatory ingredients into your daily diet! ๐Ÿ’›

A chai a day keeps the joint pain away!

๐Ÿ’›๐Ÿ’›๐Ÿ’›

Worth remembering that as with most medication and pain relief treatments, it is vital that you take them regularly....for them to have the required effect.
I've now been taking my Turmeric chai blend daily for around 3 weeks...and after a super busy weekend I ended up missing taking it for 2 days. I now know exactly why I take it! The difference in my knees yesterday was very noticeable. Couldn't wait to get back on my chai yesterday ๐Ÿ’›

Don't let your supply run out and undo the work that you've done! Also remember that I offer discount if you buy 28 days worth.

Try Chai Twice...

Another way you can get your daily dose of curcumin is to divide and conquer!

Why not split your daily dosage in half and make 2 drinks during the day? This results in a lighter blend. You could do one cup with milk and 1 cup with water to mix things up! ๐Ÿ’›

Talking about hero ingredients, why not combine a few? My fabulous breakfast this morning was turmeric chai porridge with honey!
I'm sure I don't need to sing about the virtues of oats and honey. Plus there are so many!

๐Ÿ’›The usual 1 level tbsp turmeric chai blend.
1 mug of milk
1 tbsp of honey. (I don't normally succumb to individual portions..but these stop me being greedy with the honey!)
Simmer the milk and chai blend until the required consistency, then drizzle on the honey! It was absolutely delicious and because you're cooking out the spices...the flavour is a lot more subtle. Happy belly ๐Ÿ’›

๐Ÿ’› Drink up! ๐Ÿ’›

As you know I have packed plenty of natural antioxidant ingredients into my chai blend, but what is an antioxidant?

Antioxidants are molecules that can donate an electron to a free radical without making themselves unstable. This causes the free radical to stabilize and become less reactive.

This leads to what is known as oxidative stress.

What are the affects of oxidative stress on the body?
Oxidation is a normal and necessary process that takes place in your body. Oxidative stress, on the other hand, occurs when thereโ€™s an imbalance between free radical activity and antioxidant activity. When functioning properly, free radicals can help fight off pathogens. Pathogens lead to infections.

When there are more free radicals present than can be kept in balance by antioxidants, the free radicals can start doing damage to fatty tissue, DNA, and proteins in your body. Proteins, lipids, and DNA make up a large part of your body, so that damage can lead to a vast number of diseases over time. These include:

diabetes
atherosclerosis, or the hardening of the blood vessels
inflammatory conditions
high blood pressure, which is also known as hypertension
heart disease
neurodegenerative diseases, such as Parkinsonโ€™s and Alzheimerโ€™s
cancer
Oxidative stress also contributes to aging.

So many reasons to pack natural antioxidants into our bodies! ๐Ÿ’›

Hero ingredient....Cinnamon

The result of drying the inner bark layers of the Cinnamomom tree! Centuries of using for medicinal purposes has meant that scientific research is beginning to back up and prove many of the claims made around Cinnamon.
Of primary importance are the powerful antioxidant properties of cinnamon. So powerful in fact that cinnamon can be used as a food preservative.
Again these antioxidants including polyphenols are super effective in fighting free radicals....and so helping to fight and prevent disease.
Studies are now beginning to back up the claims that cinnamon, when used regularly, can lower blood sugar levels, lower blood pressure, reduce the risk of heart disease and also have great anti inflammatory properties.

Here's another way to add cinnamon into your daily diet (the most effective way to receive the benefits is to consume daily)...

Stir half a teaspoon of honey and a good pinch of cinnamon into one of your daily cuppas! My preference is tea but is also fab in coffee โ˜•๏ธ

Hero ingredient....Ginger!

This incredible spice, the root of of a plant originating in South East Asia, has been known for its health benefits for centuries.

It is widely known to aid with digestion and help all sorts of gastrointestinal issues.

Gingerol, the main bioactive compound in ginger, has powerful antioxidant and anti inflammatory properties.

It is also excellent in preventing nausea, for example when travelling or pregnant.

Recent studies are find evidence that it may also lower blood pressure and help to prevent heart disease.

And of course it tastes amazing! Why not make yourself this fantastic breakfast....although I've just had it to help with my mid afternoon slump in energy.

Mix together butter, honey (I used homemade chilli honey) and ground ginger into a whipped butter, and spread on hot toasted sourdough or seeded rye bread..its divine!
