I created The Skin Lab due to my passion for healthy , glowing skin.
After years of battling acne and minor acne scarring - it is fair to say I had heard it all and tried it all: sometimes products worked, but mostly I was misinformed or mis-sold.
When I decided to retrain in aesthetics, my number one goal was to help people suffering with skin concerns and to be able to pass on my knowledge and experience to help people feel more confident in the skin they are in.
With so much out there - how do you know what is legit and what is just down to clever marketing? To be honest it is tricky and not one product or treatment fits all, we are all different- your skincare regime should be tailored to your specific needs and concerns: and that is where I can help.
My consultations will always be free of charge - passing on the correct information without any obligation to purchase skincare or a course of treatments is important to me. I want people to have the knowledge regarding all things skin that I lacked for so many years.
The biggest question I am asked is about acne. Mostly acne is down to lifestyle and products your using/not using. Correcting what you do at home, day and night will give you better results than a stand alone treatment. 80% of how your skin behaves is down to you, that is why getting your self into a routine at home with products that contain active ingredients has to be your number one priority.
Years ago I never understood why a chemical peel or a course of treatments wouldn’t give me the glowing skin the technician promised i’d have...until training in the industry there is just so little that is passed on. Basically years of being lazy with my skin, using baby wipes, using creams and cleansers off a supermarket shelf all contributed to destroying the lipid barrier under my skin. Every time you use soap or even just water ...you are stripping away the goodness under your skin- you rarely see any evidence of this like redness or soreness and so you carry on. Then as most of us get older you start to up you skincare regime, start using stronger products or booking in for clinical treatments and boom- you have a reaction.
It can take time for your skin to adjust to using cosmeceuticals...and it is so important to buy them off a technician trained on that range. They will guide you through what to use and how to use them..they will inform you that you may have an initial reaction and most importantly explain WHY. The next 4 weeks will be about you retraining your skin to behave... with your lipid barrier being restored in as little as two weeks.
So why so much talk about restoring my lipid barrier? Well this is something you must consider if thinking about booking in for a chemical peel - people will think your talking about products just as an add on, no the truth is you will have horrendous downtime if you expect to have a chemical peel on a baby-wiped face and fortunately in a lot of good skincare places the products you need will be included in your course price- this takes the sting out of paying more.
Most mild acne cases can me treated with a great skincare regime and a course of Microdermabrasion. If your acne is more severe them Chemical Peels and LED light therapy would be ideal. Once any live acne is under control, you may move on to Micro needling to treat enlarged pores and acne scarring.
There are solutions out there, science and technology have moved on so fast in the skincare industry - it’s just about finding a technician you trust to get you on the right path.
As I said earlier, my consultations will always be FREE so please book yourself in via Vagaro (a free app to download linked to my booking system) or drop me an email to [email protected].
