☀️ Skin Cancer Awareness Month: Why Protecting Your Skin Matters

May is Skin Cancer Awareness Month, a time to highlight the importance of looking after your skin—not just for aesthetics, but for your long-term health.

Your skin is your body’s largest organ, acting as a protective barrier against environmental damage, bacteria, and harmful UV radiation. Yet, it’s often one of the most overlooked when it comes to preventative care.

🔬 What is Skin Cancer?

Skin cancer occurs when skin cells become damaged, most commonly due to ultraviolet (UV) exposure from the sun or tanning beds. Over time, this damage can lead to abnormal cell growth.

The three most common types are:

* Basal cell carcinoma (BCC) – the most common, usually slow growing
* Squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) – can spread if untreated
* Melanoma – less common but more aggressive and potentially life-threatening. ⚠️ Why Prevention is Key

The majority of skin cancers are preventable. This is where a prophylactic (preventative) approach becomes essential.

Consistent sun protection significantly reduces your risk. This includes:

* Wearing SPF 30 or higher daily (yes, even in the UK ☁️)
* Reapplying every 2 hours when exposed
* Avoiding peak UV hours (11am–3pm)
* Wearing hats, sunglasses, and protective clothing. 🔍 Know Your Skin

Early detection saves lives.

Get familiar with your skin and check regularly for:

* New moles or lesions
* Changes in size, shape, or colour
* Irregular borders or uneven pigmentation
* Any sore that doesn’t heal

A simple way to remember warning signs is the ABCDE rule:

* Asymmetry
* Border irregularity
* Colour variation
* Diameter (larger than 6mm)
* Evolving (changing over time). If you notice anything unusual, seek medical advice promptly. Skin cancer doesn’t discriminate—it can affect anyone, regardless of skin tone or age.

Taking small, consistent steps now can make a huge difference in the future.

Protect your skin like it protects you.

Get ready with me using makeup that’s actually good for your skin ✨. A little get ready with me using my Tropic makeup favourites.
I love makeup that feels light, looks natural, and still lets your skin breathe — especially for everyday wear.

Skincare first, then simple, glowing makeup that enhances rather than covers. That’s always the goal 🤍

If you’ve ever wanted makeup that feels like skincare, Tropic makeup is honestly a game changer.

Message me if you want shade matches, product recommendations, or a routine — I’m always happy to help 💌

If your skin could talk, it would ask for microneedling… ✨

Microneedling is one of my favourite treatments because it works with your skin, not against it. By creating tiny micro-channels in the skin, we stimulate collagen and elastin production, helping your skin repair, smooth and rejuvenate itself naturally.

This treatment is great for:
• Fine lines and wrinkles
• Acne scarring
• Large pores
• Uneven skin texture
• Pigmentation
• Dull or tired-looking skin
• Stretch marks

It’s suitable for most people who want to improve overall skin quality and achieve a healthier, smoother, more radiant complexion over time.

Microneedling isn’t a quick fix — it’s a skin journey. But the results are worth it. 🤍 DM to get in for your consultation

Want smoother, brighter skin without injectables? This is your sign ✨. Microneedling is one of the most effective ways to stimulate your skin’s natural repair process.

Using tiny, controlled micro-injuries, it triggers the production of collagen and elastin — the building blocks of firm, healthy skin.

✨ Helps to:
• Improve skin texture & tone
• Reduce fine lines & wrinkles
• Minimise pores
• Fade acne scars & pigmentation
• Boost product absorption (your skincare works better)

It’s not about changing your face — it’s about enhancing your skin from within. “ Ready to invest in your skin long-term? DM me ‘SKIN’ to book 💌”
