After an interesting seminar with Dr Des Fernandes and Dr Gaby Prinsloo in London yesterday, it really connected a lot of dots 👀

✨ Skin health is not just about what you put on your skin.

It’s about inflammation and how the skin and internal system are connected.

So… I’ve got one of these red light masks too and honestly, they can be pretty decent if you use them regularly (which, let’s be honest, it’s easy to forget!).

Quite a few of you have asked recently whether they’re actually any good, I think they were a popular Christmas gift this year!

The answer is yes, red light therapy can be beneficial for the skin, but only if the mask is medical grade. Most of the cheaper ones don’t have the right strength or light wavelengths to really make a difference. A good quality one will use red (630–660nm) and near-infrared (810–850nm) light, with a consistent output, and should be FDA cleared and CE or UKCA marked for safety.

Even with that, they won’t match the results of in-salon treatments. The machines I use contain iontophoresis, sonophoresis, electrical muscle stimulation, radio frequency, and cavitation (for body) all professional grade and only available to qualified therapists.

That said, a good at home mask can be a great top up between monthly facials to help maintain your salon results.
