OFFICIAL APPEAL FROM THE PEOPLE OF ALA MBIERI

Ala Mbieri is not a facility for storing or keeping dead bodies. We call on the Governor of Imo State to please come and remove the over fifty (50) bodies currently here, and return them to their original location. We will not accommodate this situation in our community.

If the relocation is due to renovation work at the Umuguma Mortuary, the proper procedure should have been to first notify the families of the deceased to collect their loved ones. For any bodies that remain unclaimed, the government has the authority and responsibility to arrange for their decent burial.

We therefore urge the Governor to take immediate action to move all these bodies back to Umuguma without further delay.
