1. The lift matters more than the formula.
If the canvas is uneven, the end result will always be uneven.
No toner saves a bad lift.

2. Porosity changes everything.
What tones cool on one client can go muddy, dark, or flat on another if the hair is too porous.

3. Wet hair lies.
If you’re unsure, dry a small section. It shows you the actual level before you tone.

4. Stop guessing and hoping for the best.
Check your sections. Check your saturation. Check your timing.Consistency isn’t luck.

5. Slow down when you need to.
Speed comes with experience.
If you need to pause, analyse the lift, and rethink your plan… do it.

You learn more from understanding WHY you’re doing something than memorising someone else’s formula or placement.

Ever wondered why I leave the face frame OUT when I start toning?

The hair around the front hairline is often finer and lighter in shade.

That means it can grab to toners differently and may not need the same processing time as the rest of the hair.

So rather than applying my toner everywhere at once, I’ll often:

Apply to the areas that need the most neutralisation first.

Work through the rest of the hair.

Apply to the face frame LAST.

Because if that front is already clean and light, leaving toner on it for the full processing time can leave it looking duller or more over-toned than the rest.

You can also dilute your toner with clear to get a more sheer colour.

And this is one of those tiny changes that can make a massive difference to your finished blonde.

Stop treating every section of the head exactly the same.
