A patient came to see me recently after months of foot pain.

By the time they walked into clinic, it wasn’t just their foot that was affected.

They’d stopped running.

Work had become more difficult.

They couldn’t even enjoy playing football with their children.

One of the first conversations we had wasn’t about giving all of those things up.

It was about finding a starting point.

✔️ What can you do?

✔️ How can we gradually build your confidence back up?

✔️ How do we get you back to doing the things that matter most to you?

That’s what rehabilitation means to me.

It’s not about telling people everything they can’t do.

It’s about helping them get back to the life they want to live.

Every person is different, and every rehabilitation journey is different too. But my goal is always the same: to help people move with more confidence and get back to the things they love. 🤍

One thing I’ve learnt from working with hundreds of patients is this…

People are incredibly good at adapting.

They’ll change how they walk.
Avoid certain movements.
Stop hobbies they love.
Put up with aches and pains for months, sometimes years.

Not because they want to.

But because they assume it’s “just one of those things.”

It doesn’t have to be.

Whether it’s a recent injury, arthritis, persistent pain or something that’s just never quite settled, there are often things we can do to help you move with more confidence again.

If you’ve been putting something off, maybe this is your reminder to stop just living with it. 🤍

POV: you’re a Sports Therapist trying to enjoy the sun between patients ☀️

Things Sports Therapists do that patients never see… 👀

Writing patient notes and suddenly finding yourself recreating every movement they showed you in the appointment. 😂

👉 “Was it when you lifted it like this?”
👉 “Or was it this movement?”
👉 “No, hang on…”

A lot of clinical reasoning happens after you’ve left the room. Sometimes the notes take longer because we’re trying to make sure we’ve understood exactly what’s going on and how best to help.

I promise there is usually a method behind the madness. 🤣

One of the biggest mistakes I see people make with rehab is thinking they need a huge programme full of exercises.

The reality?

The most successful rehab plans are often the simplest.

👉 3-5 exercises

👉 A clear goal

👉 Done consistently

I’d much rather give someone 3 exercises they can realistically stick to than 10 exercises they never have time to do.

The best rehab programme isn’t the most complicated one.

It’s the one that fits into your life.

Because results come from consistency, not perfection.

If we can build rehab into your daily routine without it feeling like a chore, you’re far more likely to succeed. 💪

A common misconception I hear all the time…

“I’ll book in when it gets really bad.”

The truth is, you don’t need to wait until you’re struggling to move before seeking help.

Sports therapy isn’t just about treating pain.

It’s also about:

👉 Improving movement

👉 Building strength

👉 Preventing future injuries

👉 Increasing confidence in your body

👉 Helping you stay active doing the things you enjoy

Often the best results come when we address small issues before they become big ones.

Your body doesn’t need to be broken before it deserves attention. 💪

One of the most common conversations I have in clinic:

👉 “Do I need a new chair?”

👉 “Is it my mattress?”

👉 “Do I need different trainers?”

👉 “Should I buy one of those massage guns?”

And honestly…

Sometimes those things help.

But they’re rarely the whole answer.

A lot of aches and pains come down to a combination of things:

➡️ Recovery
➡️ Strength
➡️ Activity levels
➡️ Stress
➡️ Sleep
➡️ Load management

We’re often looking for one thing to blame because it feels simpler.

But bodies are usually a bit more complicated than that.

That’s why a good assessment is so important.

Because the solution isn’t always the thing you think it is. 👀

👉 Pain is real.

👉 Your symptoms matter.

👉 But pain doesn’t automatically equal damage.

Understanding that distinction can be the difference between avoiding movement and confidently getting back to doing the things you enjoy.

Research Wednesday 🧠

Hypermobility is common.

But it’s not always harmless.
And it’s not always problematic.

Many people with hypermobility have no symptoms at all, while others may experience pain, recurrent injuries, altered movement patterns, or wider systemic features.

The key message from this paper?

Recognising hypermobility matters.

Not because every flexible joint needs fixing, but because understanding the person behind the flexibility can influence assessment, management, and sometimes identify broader connective tissue disorders.

That’s exactly what we’re exploring this month inside BCP.

Because hypermobility is far more than a Beighton score.
