🚨 HARD GROUND = HARD TRUTH 🚨

The ground might look fine... but every stride on hard ground sends greater concussion up your horse's limbs. Research shows repeated impact on firm surfaces increases loading through the bones, joints and soft tissues, raising the risk of soreness and injury.

βœ… DO
βœ”οΈ Stick to plenty of active walk (think power walking!)
βœ”οΈ Use hill work and/or lateral exercises to maintain fitness and suppleness.
βœ”οΈ Keep your horse as well-conditioned as possible - strong muscles help absorb concussion.
βœ”οΈ Ensure good farriery and cool legs with cold water after harder work.
βœ”οΈ Listen to your horse - if they're feeling footy or sore, adjust your plans.

❌ DON'T
βœ–οΈ Canter or jump on ground that's like concrete and full of cracks!
βœ–οΈ Believe the myth that you can "condition" joints to hard ground - you can't. Repeated concussion increases wear, it doesn't strengthen joints.
βœ–οΈ Ignore the signs of jarring, foot soreness or stiffness.

Yes, they'll still have a blast around the field... but they don't have us on their backs affecting their balance! (My Clydesdale still thinks he's a racehorse... much to my neighbours' amusement! πŸ˜‚)

Science over tradition. Your horse will thank you for waiting for the rain. 🌧️🐴

πŸ“’ Please like and share - you could help prevent an avoidable injury.

Hello everyone!

I hope everyone has been surviving the recent weather okay!! I’ve once again been rubbish at keeping this page updated πŸ™ˆ but I’ve been having a fab time recently working with some wonderful horses, including my own 5 year old Ginny (pictured below), who is now finally starting to look a bit like a grown up and is very exciting!

I’m also looking forward to taking the lovely George to areas in a couple of weeks time and he has completed his qualification for the associated championships later on the year, I’m hoping I may be able to take another very special pony with him but more on that later 😁

After a very hectic few months I now have some availability coming up from August, feel free to pop me a message to discuss requirements, whether that be schooling/backing/hacking/groundwork/lessons etc.

Lots of references available, no job too small, I enjoy helping in whatever way I can ☺️

Also, a brilliant insight from Tom! Thank you πŸ™

Do you struggle to get your horse to drink enough in the hot weather? My lad is terrible at drinking and over the years I have tried many things. The best way I have found is to put a small handful of mash/feed in a bucket of water so that it adds flavour πŸ˜€
What are your top tips for this hot weather?

Very proud day for Equiflex yesterday with two riders in the white boards in tails 😱
Congratulations to both Fran Scott Fran Scott Equine and Princess who competed at PSG at the British Dressage - North & East Region show at Pickering Grange
While Jessy Grove and Bear completed their first ever Advanced test at Sheepgate Equestrian

Two very different horses doing a fantastic job and both thoroughly enjoying their days, riders too! The diversity is definately one reason I love my job so much!
