Running a business in today’s climate is not easy.

With rising inflation and increasing overheads, many businesses are quietly struggling just to stay afloat. Behind every service, product, and experience is time, money, risk, and dedication that often goes unseen.

From creating content, managing admin, sourcing props, setting up sessions, and investing upfront—none of it is free, and none of it is guaranteed to succeed.

Lately, there’s been a noticeable shift. Messages go unanswered. Excitement is shown, interest is expressed—but when it comes to commitment, it disappears.

Payments are missed, conversations are ghosted, and promises aren’t always kept. And while circumstances can change, requesting refunds due to personal financial changes is something small businesses simply cannot absorb and survive.
If we don’t get paid, we can’t continue. And if we can’t continue, the services you love disappear.

Many business owners offer flexibility—payment plans, reschedules, understanding when life happens—but there has to be a balance. Kindness should not be taken advantage of. Terms and conditions are in place to protect both sides, not to make things difficult.

It’s also important to understand that income is never guaranteed in business. Even during quiet weeks, the bills still come out. Rent, stock, utilities, insurance—these don’t pause just because bookings do.

It’s heartbreaking to see so many small businesses closing, and even more difficult to have to chase payments or follow up with those who showed interest but never returned. Every “maybe,” every “I’m interested,” carries hope—and often, financial risk.

If you’re unable to support a business financially right now, that’s completely understood. But please remember—support doesn’t always have to cost anything. A like, a share, a comment, a follow—these small actions help more than you realise. They keep businesses visible, relevant, and moving forward.

To fellow business owners: you’re not alone. This is a tough time, but your hard work, passion, and resilience matter.

And to everyone reading—please think carefully before committing to a service, and consider the impact your actions can have on small businesses trying their best to navigate an incredibly challenging time.
