🧼 Rivers of Glycerin 🧼
Scientific research has found that glycerin is good for the skin - it’s a good humectant helping the skin retain moisture.
All of our soaps contain natural glycerin (from the oils and butters)… usually, when the soap behaves itself, glycerin is equally dispersed within the body of the soap and can’t be seen… but sometimes soap can make itself too hot (naughty soap!) when going through the saponification process resulting in rivers of glycerin forming in the loaf!
This doesn’t affect the quality or performance of the soap, it just makes it look funky!

Q. Why do the same variety of soap bars often look a bit different?!
A. Exothermic reaction…
When the liquid oils and butters, which make up our soap, go through the saponification process - changing chemically from liquid to solid - the reaction can reach temperatures in excess of 80°C.
The heat causes the soap to darken - which is why some of our soap bars are darker in the middle as that was the hottest point during saponification, or entire bars are darker than their peers despite being in the same mould!
The darker patches don’t affect the quality of the soap, just the colour.
Science is cool… or hot in this case! 👨🔬
