FAQ Friday 💬 | “If I register as an organ donor, can I change my mind later?
It might not be the easiest conversation to have, but **talking about organ donation is important. 🫀
Organ donation is a personal decision, and there can be lots of questions around what registering means, what your options are, and what happens if your circumstances or feelings change.
In England, the organ donation system operates on an opt-out basis, but your family will still be involved in discussions if donation becomes a possibility. NHS Blood and Transplant recommends making your decision known and talking to your family about your wishes.
For clear, up-to-date information about organ donation, your choices and how to record or change your decision, visit the official NHS Organ Donation website.
And if you have questions you'd like to talk through in more detail, speaking to a GP can be a good place to start.
At Clinic Visjeune, our GPs can provide time to discuss your questions and help you understand the options available to you. Dr Joao one of our GPs, may be particularly suited to these wider health and lifestyle conversations.
You don't have to have all the answers straight away. Sometimes the first step is simply starting the conversation. 💙
Have a question about organ donation? Talk it through.

Talk It Out Thursday 💬 | Overthinking
Ever find yourself replaying a conversation, worrying about what might happen, or going over every possible outcome in your head?
That's overthinking — and sometimes, the more we try to find an answer, the more stuck we can feel.
This week, Esther, our counsellor, shares a few gentle reminders:
✨ Not every thought needs your attention
✨ You can't always think your way out of uncertainty
✨ Take a step back and focus on what you can control
✨ Give yourself permission to pause
Sometimes, you don't need to find the perfect answer. You just need to give your mind a break. 💙

💚 NATIONAL ORGAN DONATION WEEK
Organ donation is something many of us don't think about until we need it.
For someone waiting for a transplant, a donated organ could mean more time with their family, more memories and the chance to live the life they were hoping for.
One donor can save lives — and that is an incredible legacy.
This week, take a few minutes to think about your own wishes and, importantly, talk to the people closest to you about them.
You never know when having that conversation might matter.
💚 Start the conversation. Share your decision.

🎓 FRESHERS’ WEEK IS HERE — KNOW YOUR MENINGITIS
New friends. Halls. Shared kitchens. Nights out. Lots of close contact.
Freshers’ Week is an exciting time, but it’s also a good time to think about your health — particularly meningitis and meningococcal disease.
Young people starting university for the first time have a higher risk of meningococcal disease, with first-year university students around 7 times more likely to develop it than young people of the same age who don't attend university.
💉 MenB is particularly important
In England, MenB is currently the leading cause of invasive meningococcal disease in 15–24-year-olds.
There is currently a time-limited NHS MenB vaccination programme for eligible young people starting university for the first time in autumn 2026.
If you're eligible, 2 doses are needed, at least 28 days apart. If you've already had your first dose, make sure you arrange your second.
And don't forget to check that you're up to date with your MenACWY vaccination too. MenACWY protects against different groups of meningococcal bacteria and does not protect against MenB.
🚨 Know the symptoms
Meningitis and septicaemia can develop quickly.
Look out for symptoms including:
• Severe headache
• Fever
• Vomiting
• Drowsiness or confusion
• Stiff neck
• A rash that doesn't fade when pressed
• Cold hands and feet
• Rapid breathing
Don't wait for every symptom to appear. If you think you or a friend could have meningitis or septicaemia, seek urgent medical help.
Freshers’ Week is about looking after your friends too. 💙
Check your vaccinations. Know the signs. Look out for each other.
For the latest NHS information and to check MenB eligibility, visit the NHS website.
