"Not all sunscreens are created equal, and knowing what to look for on the label could make a real difference to your skin long term π€
Here is what you actually need to check before you buy.
Broad spectrum. This is the most important thing to look for. It means your sunscreen protects against both UVB and UVA rays. UVB rays are the ones that cause burning, but UVA rays pe*****te deeper into the skin, contributing to premature ageing, wrinkles, and potentially playing a role in skin cancer. You need protection from both, every single day.
SPF 30 as a minimum. For most people in the UK, SPF 30 is the baseline. Higher is always better, especially on the face.
Four star UV protection or above. You will see this rating on the packaging alongside the SPF number. Do not overlook it.
And here is the thing a lot of people still do not realise. The UK does not need to be sunny for UV rays to be present. They come through cloud cover, they reflect off surfaces, and they are there in winter just as much as summer. Your face, neck, and ears are exposed every single day, which means your SPF should be too.
At Skin Within we recommend AlumierMD SPF as part of your daily skincare routine, because great protection should never compromise how your skin looks and feels π€

I know, I know, we will not stop going on about it π€
But SPF is honestly one of the single most important things you can do for your skin, full stop. Not just on holiday, not just on sunny days, every single day, all year round.
UV damage is the number one cause of premature ageing, pigmentation, and long term skin damage and the simplest, most affordable way to protect against it is already out there waiting for you.
So consider this your daily reminder from us π€
Wear your SPF. Your future skin will thank you for it every single time.

Something we have been working on behind the scenes is nearly here, and we cannot wait to share it with you
We know that great skin is not a one-off treatment. It is a journey, and it works best when it is consistent, planned, and supported by the right people alongside you every step of the way.
So we have been busy building something that makes that easier, more accessible, and genuinely rewarding for our clients.
A brand new membership package is coming to the clinic very soon. Designed to help you spread the cost of your skincare across the year, stay consistent with your treatments, and get more from every single visit π€
Four tiers. Real savings. A personalised skin plan that works around you and your goals.

Holiday season is here and your skin deserves to enjoy it just as much as you do πΈ
A little preparation before you go and some simple habits while you are away can make the difference between coming home glowing and coming home with skin that needs serious recovery time.
Before you go. Book a skin consultation so you know exactly what your skin needs heading into a season of sun, heat, and salt water. Get your AlumierMD SPF sorted before you travel, because running out on holiday and reaching for whatever is available is never the plan. And if you are using any active ingredients like retinol or glycolic acid, speak to your practitioner about how to adjust your routine in the sun as these can increase sensitivity.
While you are away. SPF is non-negotiable, every single day, reapplied regularly, for you and everyone you love. Sun, salt water, heat, and air conditioning are all working against your skin barrier so keep hydration front and centre. Drink plenty of water alongside those holiday drinks and load up on water rich foods like watermelon, cucumber, oranges, and strawberries. And if you are enjoying a few cocktails by the pool, remember that alcohol draws water out of the skin, depletes collagen, and generates free radicals, so balance it out with extra hydration and a good hyaluronic acid serum morning and night.
When you get home. Your skin barrier will have taken a hit. Look out for redness, tightness, dryness, or increased sensitivity and book in for a skin booster or hydration treatment to restore and replenish from within π€
Great skin on holiday does not happen by accident. It starts with the right products, the right advice, and the right clinic behind you.

Not all skincare ingredients play nicely together, and knowing what not to mix is just as important as knowing what to use πΈ
Here are three combinations to avoid.
Retinol and Vitamin C together can cause irritation and sensitivity; both are powerful actives, and using them at the same time can be too much for the skin to handle. Use Vitamin C in the morning and retinol at night.
Retinol on its own can cause extreme dryness, especially when you are first introducing it into your routine. Always follow with a good moisturiser and never use it alongside anything exfoliating.
Vitamin C and glycolic acid together can lead to overexfoliation, leaving skin red, tight, and vulnerable. Keep these on separate days or separate routines entirely.
A couple of others are worth knowing. Niacinamide and Vitamin C can reduce the effectiveness of both when layered directly, and benzoyl peroxide can deactivate retinol so keep those apart too.
The golden rule? Introduce one new active at a time, give your skin time to adjust, and if you are ever unsure what your skin actually needs, that is exactly what we are here for π€

Your skin barrier is the outermost layer of your skin and honestly, it deserves a lot more attention than it gets πΈ
Think of it like a protective wall. When it is healthy it locks in hydration, keeps out irritants, pollution, and bacteria, and your skin looks glowy, plump, smooth, and dewy. When it is damaged, you will know about it. Redness, tightness, rough texture, increased sensitivity, and breakouts are all signs it needs some support.
And with a summer of sun, salt water, heat, and long days ahead, barrier care is more important than ever right now π€
Not sure where to start? Book a consultation and we will help you build a routine that protects and restores.

Summer is here and we are absolutely here for the barbecues, the garden parties, and the long evenings with a cold drink in hand πΈ
But if your skin has been looking a little dull, puffy, or tired lately, those summer drinks could be playing more of a role than you realise.
Here is what is actually happening beneath the surface when we drink. Alcohol is a diuretic, which means it draws water out of the body and leaves skin dehydrated, dry, and flaky. The sugar in alcohol triggers a process called glycation, which damages your collagen and elastin, the very things that keep skin firm and bouncy. On top of that, excess alcohol generates free radicals that accelerate premature ageing, and it places strain on the liver, reducing the body's ability to eliminate toxins efficiently.
The result? Skin that looks dull and tired after a big weekend, feels dry and tight the morning after a barbecue, appears puffier and more inflamed, shows fine lines more easily, and is more prone to redness and breakouts.
The good news is that your skin is incredibly responsive when you give it the right support.
Reach for a high quality hyaluronic acid serum or moisturiser to restore hydration from the outside. Book in for a skin booster treatment to replenish from within. And from a lifestyle side, drink plenty of water between those summer drinks and load up on water rich foods like cucumber, watermelon, oranges, and strawberries. Honestly the perfect summer plate anyway π
Enjoy every moment of this season. Just give your skin a little extra love alongside it π€

Not all skincare is created equal, and at Skin Within we are very intentional about the product houses we choose to work with πΈ
One of our most trusted partners is AlumierMD, a medical grade skincare brand built on clean science, clinically proven ingredients, and a genuine commitment to results. AlumierMD is exclusively dispensed through qualified professionals, which means you will not find it on a supermarket shelf. And that matters more than you might think.
Because here is the thing. The right product in the wrong routine will only get you so far. That is exactly how we approach skincare at Skin Within. Every product recommendation is personal. Every routine is built around you, where your skin is right now and where you want it to be.
Great skin is not just about great products. It is about great guidance too π€
