Eustachian Tube Dysfunction (ETD)
The Eustachian tube connects your middle ear to the back of your nose and helps regulate pressure in the ear. When it doesn’t open properly, it can cause symptoms very similar to wax blockage, such as:
• A feeling of fullness or pressure
• Muffled hearing
• Popping or crackling sounds
• Mild discomfort
ETD often happens after a cold, with allergies, sinus issues, or changes in pressure (for example during flying).
If your ears feel blocked but there’s little or no wax present, syringing won’t relieve the symptoms – because the issue is pressure in the middle ear rather than wax in the ear canal.
