CONSULTATION REALLY IS KEY 🤍

A little story about one of my long-term clients & friends…

For the last couple of years, we’ve been trying to gradually take her hair lighter. I’d go in with 100s of fine foils, the correct developer and everything I’d normally do, but for some reason her hair just wasn’t agreeing with it.

The foils were boiling and swelling, the bleach was expanding, and I was becoming really concerned about the condition of her hair. Honestly, a hairdresser’s nightmare! 😩

I knew there was some kind of chemical reaction happening, but I just couldn’t work out what was causing it.

Until our last consultation…
She was talking about her house being on a farm which is completely forgot about and has a natural spring water supply.

💡 THAT WAS IT!
The metals in the water, including copper, were reacting with the bleach.
And I was SO annoyed with myself! 😂 I’m the one who loves a good consultation — my team even take the mick out of me for how in-depth I go — yet I’d never thought to ask about her water supply!

It was such a good reminder that consultation really is everything.
We’ve now achieved the lighter result we’ve been working towards by pre-treating her hair with a professional metal detox before colouring. 🤍

So, to all the hairdressers… ask the extra questions! And to all the clients wondering why we ask SO many… this is why! 😂🤍

It was such a good reminder that mistakes can easily be made, even with experience, and I think it’s important that we’re honest about that on social media.

We don’t always get everything right, and that’s okay. What matters is recognising it, learning from it and making sure we do better next time. 🤍

Sometimes the smallest detail can make the biggest difference.🤍
