Week 1 βœ”οΈ

The first session of the new group on Peri & Post Menopause Beginner Strength Course is done!

This week we focused on one of the fundamental movement patterns - the squat. We looked at why it's such an important exercise, how to perform it safely and effectively, and how it can be adapted to suit every ability.

The squat is more than just a gym exercise. It helps with everyday movements like sitting down, standing up, lifting... while also supporting bone health, muscle mass, balance, and independence as we age.

Over the next six weeks we'll continue building on these foundations, helping everyone grow stronger and more confident in the gym.

I'm looking forward to seeing how much progress this lovely group makes! πŸ’™

Some of you may have seen one of our young members Callum around the gym… a passionate and gifted young runner.

Unfortunately Callum was recently involved in a tragic car accident which took the life of his friend and left him with some serious injuries including a broken shoulder and a fractured spine.

His recovery will be long and hard, but we stand by him and are fully with him to support his long rehab journey.

A just giving page has been set up for Callum and his family… knowing him and his family on a personal level, I know the pain and devastation they are going through, and I also I know his treasured Garmin watch was lost on the scene, and we’d love to get together with our members and help boost the fundraising in order to help him get a new one and help raise as much as possible to assist with equipment and training gear for his rehab journey.

We also send our sincere condolences to his friend Kieran’s family. Although not a member here, I knew Kieran personally, he was a local young teenager, an incredibly kind friend to many, an absolute gentleman and he will be sorely missed by Callum and his friends.

To anyone who knew Kieran or knows Callum, we are proud that our gym is so much more than just somewhere to train. Our aim was always to create a safe space not just to train, but to come and talk or just hang out with like minded people. At times like this, community support is everything, and I know our incredible staff and members will be here to help anyone who has been affected by this tragic incident.

It was so lovely catching up with some of the amazing women who completed my Peri / Post Menopause Beginner Strength Course. πŸ’œ

With the gym's recent refurbishment and brand-new equipment, I invited them back for a one off confidence session to explore the new layout and learn how to use the equipment.

Watching these ladies walk around the gym with confidence, support one another, and realise just how much they've learned since starting their strength journey is exactly why I love running these courses.

My next Beginner Strength Course starts next week and is already fully booked (thank you!), but I'll definitely be running another one in the future.
