Today is International Day of the Midwife 🤍

I’ve been a midwife since 2010, and I honestly couldn’t imagine being anything else.

I chose this path after being a birth partner for my sister when she had my nephew at just 16. I still remember the midwife who cared for her—she was so kind, so calm, and so empowering. I walked away from that experience knowing I wanted to be like her.

16 years on, one word still sums up what this job means to me… privilege.

A privilege to be invited into such an intimate and important moment in a woman’s life.A privilege to support, advocate, and care during a time that will be remembered forever. And a privilege to work alongside such incredible colleagues.

Midwifery isn’t just what I do—it’s a part of who I am. It’s the reason I’ve found it so hard to step away and go into aesthetics full time, because it will always be a part of me.

Today is about celebrating midwifery, and I feel incredibly proud to be part of it and proud of the younger version of me for pursuing it 🤍

☀️ Why I won’t treat sunburnt skin ☀️

If you come to me with sunburn — I will always reschedule your treatment.
Not because I don’t want to treat you… but because your skin is not in a safe condition to be treated.

Here’s why 👇
🚫 Injectables (anti-wrinkle / filler)
• Sunburn = active inflammation
• Increases risk of swelling, bruising & uneven results
• Skin barrier is compromised → higher risk of infection
• Healing is unpredictable, meaning results may not settle properly

🚫 Microneedling / Skin boosters
• Already inflamed skin + trauma = overstimulation
• Can worsen redness and lead to post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH)
• Increased risk of skin damage and prolonged healing

🚫 Chemical peels
• Sunburned skin is already injured/exfoliating
• Peels can cause burning, blistering, or scarring
• Very high risk of pigmentation issues

🚫 Advanced treatments (PRP, polynucleotides, etc.)
• Skin needs to be calm and intact for optimal regeneration
• Treating compromised skin can delay healing instead of improving it

⚠️ The bottom line
Sunburn = injured skin
And treating injured skin is not safe, not ethical, and not results-driven

✔️ What I will recommend instead:
• Allow skin to fully heal (usually 1–2 weeks minimum)
• Hydration + barrier repair
• SPF daily (non-negotiable!)
• Gentle skincare only
