Branded lamps… scam or truth?

I hear this a lot in nail technicians forums online - and it’s a huge myth that because 2 lamps look similar on the outside they are the same inside.

How??

It’s that time we had been dreading - but we all knew it was coming…

Life has been taking me to so many new directions, and unfortunately something has got to give 😕

So I’ll be hanging the nail tools for now.

Any appointments already booked until end of July will be honoured - but I will not be taking any more.

It’s bittersweet to say the least - I’ll miss this chapter of my life so much! But now it’s time for my next challenge!

Value… let’s think about that for a second. We all want to make money - and charge more for our services; but we are all scared to put our prices up!

Do you want to know a secret? Once your client recognises that you are worth it, they will pay slightly more not just because they like the nails, or they understand that prices are rising; but because they think YOU DESERVE IT!

And education is a HUGE part of this - if you’re seen as a SPECIALIST in your field, a true PROFESSIONAL, you created value - and that is priceless!!!

Valor... vamos pensar um pouco sobre isso. Todos nós queremos ganhar dinheiro e cobrar mais por nossos serviços, mas todos temos medo de aumentar nossos preços!

Quer saber um segredo? Quando seu cliente reconhece que você vale a pena, ele pagará um pouco mais, não apenas porque gosta das unhas ou porque entende que os preços estão subindo, mas porque acha que VOCÊ MERECE!

E a educação é uma parte ENORME disso - se você é visto como um ESPECIALISTA em sua área, um verdadeiro PROFISSIONAL, você criou valor - e isso não tem preço!!!

Me diz nos comentários: o que você tem feito ultimamente para criar valor nos seus atendimentos?

Allergies are such a hot topic amongst the nail community at the moment, and I have heard many clients mention that it is becoming a concern too, especially after the extensive media coverage we had about this subject last year.

And the questions start flying on nail tech forums: ‘if my client is allergic to a gel, can they use another gel?’, ‘or can they use acrylic instead?’.

It’s very important to point out that no nail professional can diagnose an allergy - all we can do is direct the client with a suspect dermatitis to a health professional, who will test them and determine if an allergy is present, and what is causing it.

No one becomes allergic to a product, but to an ingredient (or maybe several) in the product. This is important to understand. If that same ingredient is found in another product, that person will develop allergic reactions to both products, because of the common ingredient they share. And that can only be found out by specific medical testing!

What can we, as nail technicians, do with that information? We must know how to look for them in a product’s Safety Data Sheet. These are legal requirements for all chemical products, and manufacturers have the obligation to provide them.

These documents (previously known as MSDS - Material Safety Data Sheets - provide information on the hazards of working with a chemical and procedures that should be used to ensure safety; and will list the product’s hazardous ingredients - different from the label, which only contains the ingredients in higher concentration.

As a tech, it would be a good idea to familiarise yourself with them, as we are working daily with chemicals that can have health implications not only for our clients, but for us was well.
