After writing about how women’s nutritional needs change as we get older, it seemed only fair to look at the men.

Because men’s bodies change too. Muscle, metabolism, heart health, prostate health and nutritional priorities can all shift through the decades, even if there isn’t one dramatic menopause moment announcing that somebody has changed the settings.

My latest blog looks at what men should be thinking about in their 20s, 30s, 40s, 50s, 60s and beyond, including food, strength, heart health and, naturally, a little skincare too.

Because perhaps we should stop eating purely for the body we want this summer and start eating for the person we’d quite like to be at 80.

What if we stopped talking about ageing as though it’s something unfortunate that happens to us, and started recognising what it actually means?
You got more time.

More birthdays. More laughter. More mistakes. More chances to change your mind, start again, fall in love, learn something, lose something, survive something and understand yourself a little better.

Yet somehow we’ve created an entire beauty culture that tells women the evidence of all those extra years should be erased.

Perhaps ageing gracefully has absolutely nothing to do with looking younger.

Perhaps it’s about having the confidence to look your age and feel bloody lucky to be it.

When did being healthy get so bloody expensive?

Collagen powders, electrolyte sachets, sleep supplements, superfood blends and skincare routines with enough steps to qualify as a part-time job.

It got me wondering what Olive and Joyce would have made of it all, because I’m fairly certain my grandmothers weren’t starting their mornings with a £3.50 hydration sachet and a scoop of collagen.
My new blog looks at some of today’s expensive wellness “must-haves” and their much simpler, cheaper ancestors hiding in Grandma’s kitchen cupboard.

Because perhaps we’re not really comparing old products with new products. We’re comparing old habits with modern marketing.
