When working on darker bases I use highlights to create the lift needed to make those ribbons 𝐩𝐨𝐩💥⁣

If the hair has been lightened in the past we’ll often take a darker shade through the ends to add more depth and dimension and to help create a seamless blend from dark to light ✨ ⁣

When we lighten hair warm pigments are revealed, we call this the 𝘶𝘯𝘥𝘦𝘳𝘤𝘰𝘢𝘵. ⁣

Generally, the darker your hair is the more red pigment it has, as we lighten we have to lift through red to orange to yellow depending on your targets shade ❤️🧡💛⁣

Some people naturally have more warm pigment in their hair than others… Ever wondered why you hair has a warm glisten under the light or why it looks warmer once you’ve been on holiday? ☀️ ⁣

One thing to always remember is that brunettes fade to orange 🍊 and blondes fade to yellow 🐥 It’s not your hairdressers fault, it’s not your hairs fault - it’s just science! 🤓 ⁣

We often use toners and neutralising shades to soften the warm undercoats that are revealed or to combat naturally warm bases. You can maintain this in the salon with toners or at home with blue & purple shampoos but that warmth 𝗪𝐈𝐋𝐋 come back! ⁣

Once in a while we will have free reign to embrace warmth rather than fight against it and 𝘐 𝘭𝘰𝘷𝘦 𝘪𝘵! This doesn’t always need to be copper and reds, even a hint of gold in your blonde keeps it looking fresh and vibrant! 😍 Warmer colours also reflect the light so much more giving the most beautiful shine! ✨⁣

𝐇𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 is a traditional lightening technique where small sections of the hair are weaved or sliced in a uniform way and isolated in foil. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
𝐁𝐚𝐥𝐚𝐲𝐚𝐠𝐞 is a technique where lightener is applied in a sweeping motion. By surface painting the hair you achieve less lift which typically gives a more natural, sun kissed result. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Sometimes we will use a highlighting technique to achieve a balayage result if we want maximum lift, to break through build up or correct previous colour work.⁣⁣

So trust us when you ask for balayage and we tell you that you need a full head foils…⁣⁣

It very rare for me to do an all over colour from root to tip…⁣

Natural hair has 𝘥𝘦𝘱𝘵𝘩, 𝘥𝘪𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘴𝘪𝘰𝘯 and a 𝘷𝘢𝘳𝘪𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘰𝘯𝘦𝘴 to it. So to keep my guests hair looking natural and healthy I deepen the root and take ribbons of colour through the ends. ⁣

By leaving some of the existing colour through the ends you build natural highlights into the hair without the need of lightening. ⁣
⁣
This maintains good condition, prevents colour build up and keeps the end result much more natural. It’s also a great way of giving the illusion of more volume! ⁣
