When I first opened New Style Hair Salon, I thought I was simply creating a place where women could come to have their hair done.

Over the years, I realised it became so much more than that.

Every day, women sit in my chair and trust me with more than just their hair. We laugh together, celebrate achievements, but we also talk about life's challenges, fears, new beginnings and difficult moments.

Listening to so many different stories made me realise how incredibly strong women are, but also how important it is to have someone who listens, supports and simply makes you feel seen.

As a hairdresser, I truly believe that hair is about much more than appearance.

I've seen how the right haircut or colour can help someone smile again, feel more confident and walk out of the salon standing a little taller. Beautiful hair doesn't solve life's problems, but sometimes feeling good about yourself can be the first small step towards believing in yourself again.

That is the reason I want to create Empowered Women.

For me, it's much more than a name.

It's a vision of creating a community where women can support one another, connect, feel inspired and know they don't have to face life's challenges alone.

It's also the name behind the events I want to continue creating through New Style Hair Salon—events that bring women together, encourage meaningful conversations, support and give something back to our local community.

When I learned more about Womenkind Bristol, I immediately felt that their mission and values aligned so closely with my own.

We both believe in supporting women, rebuilding confidence, creating safe spaces and helping women move forward with strength and hope.

That's why choosing Womenkind for our very first Empowered Women Charity Haircut Day felt like the most natural decision.

On 7th September, every haircut booked at New Style Hair Salon will help support the incredible work Womenkind does for women in our local community.

I know one event won't change the world.

But if together we can help even one woman feel supported, heard or less alone, then I truly believe it's worth doing.

Meet Maja – our new Junior Stylist at New Style Hair Salon

We are excited to introduce Maja, who has joined our team as our new Junior Stylist.

Maja has completed her Level 2 Hairdressing qualification and is now continuing her journey by starting her Level 3 training, developing her skills and knowledge within the industry.

Her passion for hair began at 17, when she discovered how much she enjoyed creativity, styling, and creating beautiful looks for her friends and family. She chose a career where she can combine her creativity with helping people feel confident, comfortable, and happy with their hair.

At New Style Hair Salon, we believe that every talented stylist deserves the right environment to grow, learn, and build confidence. Supporting young talent and creating opportunities for the next generation of stylists is something I’m passionate about.

Maja will be working closely with me, learning the same attention to detail, consultation skills, professional techniques, and personalised approach that we value at New Style Hair Salon.

Her journey will include ongoing training, developing her styling skills, and building confidence behind the chair. We are excited to watch her creativity and skills grow over the coming months.

Mounjaro, Ozempic & Hair Loss from my perspective

I've been seeing more and more clients starting their weight-loss journey with medications such as Mounjaro and Ozempic. Because of that, I wanted to share my thoughts—not as a doctor, but as a hairdresser who works with hair every day.

❗️This post is based on my own research, professional experience, and what I've observed behind the chair. It is not medical advice.❗️

One concern I've been hearing more often is increased hair shedding.
From the research I've done, the medication itself isn't usually considered the direct cause. Instead, rapid weight loss, eating fewer calories, lower protein intake, and possible nutrient deficiencies can place stress on the body and trigger a temporary type of hair shedding called telogen effluvium.
Hair shedding often doesn't happen immediately—it commonly appears around 2–4 months after significant weight loss, which is why many people don't realise the two may be connected.

When someone is experiencing increased hair shedding, I don't believe in treating their hair the same way I would six months earlier.
Every appointment starts with assessing what your hair needs today.
If your hair is feeling thinner or more fragile, I may recommend:
• A softer balayage instead of a full head of highlights to reduce the amount of bleaching.
• Longer gaps between lightening appointments where appropriate.
• Being more cautious with bleaching, colouring, heat styling, and other chemical or mechanical stress.
• Focusing on maintaining the health and integrity of the hair rather than chasing a particular colour.

I also encourage clients to speak with their healthcare professional about nutrition, as getting enough protein, iron, zinc, vitamin D, vitamin B12, and other essential nutrients may support healthy hair growth if deficiencies are present.
