WHAT ACTUALLY HAPPENS WHEN YOUR SKIN TANS? ☀️🧬

Ever wondered what’s actually happening beneath the surface when your skin develops a tan? 👀

When your skin is exposed to UV radiation, it responds by increasing the production and redistribution of melanin — the natural pigment responsible for the colour of your skin, hair and eyes.

As melanin increases and is distributed through the skin, your skin can gradually appear darker — creating what we see as a tan. 🤎

And it doesn’t necessarily happen straight away! Some tanning responses develop over the hours and days following UV exposure, which is why your colour can continue to look different after your session.

Everyone’s response is different too. Your natural skin type and melanin levels influence how readily you tan — while some people develop colour more easily, others are much more likely to burn.

✨ Remember: a tan is your skin’s response to UV damage, so more UV doesn’t mean better results. Always stick to your recommended exposure time and never tan through redness or burning.
