A September surrounded by love, the start of the hockey season, dogs (obviously) and new qualification šŸ¶šŸ’šŸ¤šŸ‚

Recovery is one of the most overlooked parts of training.

We’re so used to seeing the work.

The heavy lifts.
The runs.
The sweat.
The PBs.

But we don’t always see what happens afterwards.

Your body needs time, fuel and rest to actually adapt to the training you’re giving it.

And recovery isn’t going to look exactly the same for everyone.

Some weeks you’ll be able to do more.

Some weeks you’ll need to do less.

And that’s okay.

Training hard is important if that’s your goal. But recovering well is what helps you keep doing it.

So if you’ve been feeling more tired than usual, your performance has dipped or that little niggle isn’t quite settling…

Maybe your body isn’t asking you to push harder.

Maybe it’s asking you to recover better.

One of the biggest misconceptions I come across is that sports therapy = massage.

And don’t get me wrong… I love a good sports massage šŸ˜‚

But there’s so much more to what I do.

Every person who comes through my door is different. Different body, different lifestyle, different training, different history and different goals.

So I don’t want to just treat the sore spot and send you on your way.

I want to understand what’s going on, assess it properly, treat what I can, give you something to work on and help you understand what your body needs.

Sometimes that’s hands-on treatment.

Sometimes it’s rehab.

Sometimes it’s modifying your training for a little while.

And sometimes it’s simply giving your body the chance to recover.

The aim is always the same: to help you move better, feel more confident in your body and keep doing the things you love. šŸ¤

Sometimes the answer isn’t ā€œpush harderā€.

I love training. I love lifting. And I’m definitely guilty of wanting to push through things too šŸ˜‚

But there comes a point where your body is asking for something different.

More recovery.
Less load.
Better sleep.
A change in training.
Or sometimes, actually addressing the thing you’ve been working around for weeks.

Rest isn’t laziness.
Modifying a workout isn’t failure.
And taking a step back doesn’t mean you’re losing progress.

Sometimes it’s exactly what allows you to keep moving forward.

Your body isn’t an inconvenience getting in the way of your training. It’s the thing that allows you to train in the first place. šŸ¤

The gym has been so much more than somewhere I go to train over the years.

It’s my routine.
My headspace.
My escape.

Somewhere I can put my headphones in, move my body and switch off from everything else for a little while.

There’s something about walking through those doors that makes things feel a little more normal.

I don’t always go in feeling motivated. I don’t always want to train. And I definitely don’t always have a great workout.

Some days I’ve trained properly. Some days I’ve turned up and done the bare minimum. And honestly, both have been enough.

Because sometimes looking after yourself doesn’t mean smashing a workout, hitting PBs or being the most productive version of yourself.

Sometimes it’s just showing up.

Moving your body because you know you’ll feel better for it.

Giving yourself an hour or so where you don’t have to think about everything else.

And sometimes, it’s simply being somewhere that feels familiar, safe and completely yours.

The gym has been that place for me for years, and I think I’ll always be grateful for that. You’re the best PHXGYM šŸ¤

I’ve been a little quiet on here lately.

Two weeks ago, I lost my auntie, and if I’m honest, work just hasn’t felt important.

Grief is a strange thing. The world keeps moving whilst part of yours feels like it’s standing still.

I’ve still been working and seeing my lovely clients, and I’m incredibly grateful for the little bit of normality and comfort that my job brings me.

But when it came to posting, creating content and thinking about what to say on here… I just didn’t have it in me.

I’m not really sure what the ā€œrightā€ way to come back to fully to my business is, but I suppose this is it.

Slowly. ā¤ļø

Life carries on, and so will I. It might just take me a little while to find my rhythm again.

Thank you to everyone who has been kind, understanding and given me a little grace recently. It means more than you know. ā¤ļø

A little reminder that there’s a whole person behind Ellis Sports Therapy.

The girl who can remember the origin and insertion of a muscle but absolutely cannot remember where she put her keys.

The girl who rebuilt her life at 26, took a chance on herself and built a business from the ground up.

The girl who is still learning, still doing courses, still discovering new ways to help her clients and still getting ridiculously excited when something finally clicks.

I definitely don’t have it all figured out.

But I’m really proud of what I’ve built, how much I’ve learnt and who I’m becoming along the way. šŸ¤

Sports massage isn’t just for professional athletes. šŸ‘€

Whether you train regularly, spend hours at a desk, or simply feel like your muscles are carrying a little too much tension, massage can be a useful part of looking after your body.

It may help with things like:

šŸ’Ŗ Muscle tension
šŸ”„ Post-exercise soreness
šŸ§˜ā€ā™€ļø Restricted movement
šŸ‹ļø Recovery
😌 Relaxation

But remember massage is one piece of the puzzle. Your training, sleep, nutrition, recovery and overall health all play an important role too

Running your own business can be super stressful & it’s taken me until now to be kinder to myself and take guilt free time off.

Being self employed isn’t for the weakšŸ˜…
