💅 Why shouldn’t a beauty therapist with high professional standards have long or heavily painted nails?

For a professional beauty therapist, especially one working in a high-end spa, our hands are one of our most important tools.

Short, clean and well-maintained nails are important for:

✨ Hygiene – Long nails can harbour bacteria and product residue underneath the nail and are more difficult to clean properly.

✨ Client safety and comfort – During massages, facials and body treatments, long nails can accidentally scratch or cause discomfort to the client.

✨ Treatment quality – A professional massage should be performed using the pads of the fingers, palms and hands, never the nails.

✨ Professional presentation – In a luxury spa environment, clean and well-groomed hands communicate hygiene, precision and professionalism.

✨ Spa standards – Many high-end spas have clear policies regarding nail length, nail polish and extensions for therapists carrying out treatments on clients.

This doesn’t mean that wearing nail polish makes someone unprofessional. It depends on the type of treatment and the standards of the establishment.

However, when you are working closely with a client’s skin, short, clean and beautifully maintained natural nails are, in my opinion, the most professional choice.

After all, in beauty therapy, our hands are our tools. 🤍

It was truly wonderful to spend time with Lou & Jacqui and to give the very best of ourselves.

We had a brilliant time in the Skincare & Makeup and HeadWrappers workshops (with the support of Sarah, a hair and wig specialist from Aderans Trendco Hove.

All our guests were so happy—they even took their own photos, feeling more confident and looking lovely.

Moments like these remind us how powerful kindness, care and connection can be. It’s such a privilege to be part of each woman’s journey, even in a small way 💖
