The Skin Purge: ⚠️🚨

Here’s a little bit of info about switching to natural skincare.

💚Are breakouts normal when you switch to natural skincare products?

So... you finally take the plunge and move away from your skincare products loaded with chemicals, fillers, silicones and parabens and switch to natural skincare products. Then this happens...

YOU: OMG! I am breaking out; this product is not working, it’s terrible. I must be allergic. I am totally going back to my old stuff, at least it got rid of acne, not cause more spots 😱

Have you had this happen?

Believe it or not, this is a common situation that happens to most people who decide to switch and use a natural skincare brand.

They often get impatient, don't give their new products a chance, and switch back to a chemically-driven brand for immediate results. But these immediate results are a harsh reality on your fragile skin, and they often cause trauma, or other skincare issues that may not be totally obvious until later in life.😮

BE PATIENT. Nothing worth it, is ever completely easy, but once your skin adjusts and purges you will notice healthier, glowing skin that’s achieved without slathering massive amounts of chemicals into your skin (and therefore into your body). ❤

So let’s take a little bit of a deeper dive and explore how conventional products may work. For those who are interested 😘

When you use skincare products that contain synthetic chemicals, parabens and other emulsifiers and silicones, the skin harbours these impurities and toxins that are accumulated via low-dose chemical exposure. Many mainstream, big-brands will use sillicones to produce a hydrated sensation for your skin and the user of that product, but in reality, that silicone actually slows down your skin’s own natural production of moisture.

Some skincare products contain harsh soaps and detergents which are guilty of stripping all skin of its natural oils. This is a no-no. Skin requires oils for protection and hydration. Remove that oil completely, and you surely are doing the health of your skin zero favours. You are also throwing off your skin’s natural ph levels.

So what might you expect when you make the switch to natural skincare products?

Like anything in life that’s good for you: switching diets, exercising, starting a new job, drinking more water . . . there comes a period of transition and adjustment. As your skin acclimatizes and detoxifies itself, you may notice a few localized breakouts. This is happening because quality, natural ingredients promote the purging of toxins that have shacked up in your skin from your old skincare products.

Give it some time as your skin renews itself; every 28-30 days (or longer depending on your age), you should see these spots diminish and more youthful radiant skin result. These localized breakouts are a sign that your skin is purging itself of impurities, toxins, bacteria, cell build up and more. However, the by-product should not produce prolonged redness, itching or swelling.

Things you should know!

It’s been found that the act of skin purging is more common with products aimed towards clearing blemishes. Basically pimples just beneath the skin's surface will appear a lot faster once the skin cleansing process has been sped up with new products like clarifying masks. These unwanted pimples pop up in areas where you are oilier or perhaps have clogged pores like the nose and the chin. But weather the storm because your new natural skincare routine is helping to clear a path for healthy, radiant skin.☀️

Once these annoying pimples clear, they, for the most part, should stay away as long as you keep consistent with your new skincare routine.

If you continue to see these breakouts know there is a difference between skin purging and breakouts. Breakouts are blemishes that regularly reoccur and may be a result of other issues like hormonal changes, stress, poor diet, medication, genetics, lifestyle and so on.

Tips, Tips, Tips!

Stick with your new skincare routine. Once your skin acclimatizes to these new products you are going to end up with much happier skin, an accomplishment that did not require chemicals and hormone disruptors to achieve.

Consistency is Queen👑– be consistent with your skincare routine. By following it to a T – both morning and night, AND removing your makeup before bed, you’re on the way to healthier, happier skin.

Allow your skin time to go through it’s cycle of purging and healing (something it’s constantly doing). As it becomes used to these products your skin will start to work with the products and its biological functions, not against it, like other chemical-filled products tend to do.
