✔️ 1. You should have a consultation with a prescriber.
If your practitioner isn’t an independent prescriber they should arrange a consultation with one before treatment. The prescriber reviews your medical history and if appropriate, issues a prescription specifically for you.

✔️ 2. Be cautious of prices that seem too good to be true.
Quality products, prescriptions, insurance, sterile equipment, clinical waste disposal, consultation time and ongoing training all come at a cost. If a price seems significantly lower than other reputable clinics, don’t be afraid to ask questions.

✔️ 3. Your prescription should be in your name.
Prescription-only medicines should be prescribed specifically for you. The box should have a pharmacy dispensing label attached, just like any medication you collect from a pharmacy, showing your name and details. Don’t be afraid to ask to see the box before treatment, any reputable practitioner should be happy to explain the prescribing process and show you that your medication has been prescribed correctly.

✔️ 4. The rest should go without saying…
Your practitioner should be appropriately trained, fully insured, carry out a thorough consultation, explain the treatment, discuss any risks or contraindications and provide both pre-treatment and aftercare advice. If any of these are missing, it’s worth questioning why.

Safe treatments are a shared responsibility. As practitioners, we have a duty to practise safely, ethically and within the law. As clients, you should feel confident asking questions, being an informed client is just as important!
