Honestly some days, the most productive thing you can do is give yourself a break, strip away the expectations and just give your skin and your nervous system a rest.

We’re constantly told to optimise every single minute, track our sleep, record our food, read three chapters, journal mindfully, drink the magnesium, shine red light at our face. But sometimes "simple" is what actually restores us.
A simple life isn't about doing everything perfectly. It’s about knowing when to stop, keeping your nighttime ritual uncomplicated, and trusting that an early night and a rich face oil will do more for your barrier (and your brain) than overcomplicating things ever could.

The nights are drawing in already, but here's the good news: The perfect opportunity to shower by candle light (maybe battery powered ones for safety!) I read a fabulous article today about the benefits of showering in the dark. I will blog about it soon but here are the main points:

An instant Brain Reset: The lack of visual stimulation forces your mind to slow down. After a day of being bombarded by life, your phone, your computer this could be the reset you need. You actually notice the warm water, the steam, and your favourite shower oil.
Melatonin is protected: A bright bathroom light can trick your brain into thinking it’s mid-afternoon, making you more alert. Dim lighting avoids this and keeps your sleep hormones uninterrupted.
Core Cooling Trick: A warm shower brings heat to your skin's surface. Step out, and the temperature cools, which is one of the biological signals your brain needs to fall asleep fast.

How to try it tonight:
Don't wash in total pitch black! Pop an LED candle on the sink or leave the hallway door cracked with a dim light on.

1. Bakuchiol: The Natural Retinol Alternative
Bakuchiol is derived from the seeds and leaves of the Babchi plant. It is popular for mimicking the effects of Retinol without the harsh side effects.
