In this comparison, the clearest change sits in the lower lid, not the upper one.

Before surgery, this patient had visible puffiness beneath both eyes, often caused by small pockets of fat that begin to bulge forward as the supporting tissue around them weakens with age. It is one of the more common reasons people feel they look tired, even when they are well rested.

At six weeks post-op, with Mr Ahmad in Cambridge, that puffiness has noticeably reduced, giving the lower lid a flatter, smoother transition into the cheek.
Lower eyelid surgery is not always the right answer to under-eye bags. Some cases respond better to non-surgical treatment, and the right approach depends on how much of the issue is fat, skin, or both, which is assessed individually at consultation.

Steady hands. A magnified view. A few quiet hours that most patients never get to see.

This is Mr Ahmad, Consultant Plastic Surgeon in Cambridge, mid-procedure, wearing surgical loupes for the kind of close, exact work that doesn't show up until the results do, weeks later. Every stitch placed under that magnification is one a patient will eventually see for themselves, in the mirror, long after the theatre lights are off.

We tend to talk about before-and-afters. The part in between, slow and unphotographed and almost entirely unseen, is usually where the actual outcome gets decided.

It's rarely the most photogenic part of what we do. It might be the most important.

Large, heavy breasts can affect much more than appearance.

For some patients, the weight of the breasts can contribute to discomfort in the neck, back and shoulders. Bra straps may dig in by the end of the day, the skin beneath the breast fold can become irritated, and posture may begin to change over time.

In part one of this series, Mr Ahmad explains the difference between a breast reduction and a breast uplift.

A breast reduction removes breast tissue to reduce weight and size, but it also includes an uplift as part of the procedure.

A breast uplift, also known as a mastopexy, is similar in some ways, but the breast tissue is not reduced in the same way. The focus is on lifting and reshaping rather than removing weight.

This is why consultation matters. The right procedure depends on the patient’s symptoms, anatomy, breast size, skin quality, and what they are hoping to improve.

Stay tuned for part 2.

At six weeks post-op, what changes most is how much light reaches the eye itself, now that the upper lid is no longer partially covering it.

Before surgery, excess skin along the upper eyelid had been resting low enough to shadow the eye and reduce the visible width of the iris, which is often read, subconsciously, as fatigue. Removing that excess skin does not alter the eye's shape. It simply gives it back the space it had gradually lost.
This is a blepharoplasty performed by Mr Ahmad in Cambridge. Six weeks is still relatively early in recovery, and the area will continue to settle and soften over the following months.

Blepharoplasty is not the right procedure for every patient with heavy eyelids. The decision depends on factors including skin elasticity, brow position, and how much of the visual field is genuinely affected, all of which would be assessed individually at consultation.

Can skin be tightened without surgery? Part 2.

Here, Mr Ahmad explains energy-based skin tightening, detailing how radiofrequency heats the tissues beneath the surface.

Heating the tissue to a controlled temperature triggers inflammation, collagen remodelling, and gradual tightening over time. This process is not immediate and can continue over three, six, or even nine months.

At Cambridge Clear Beauty, treatments such as FaceTite, NeckTite, AccuTite, BodyTite, and Morpheus8 are selected based on the treatment area and desired level of correction.

Mr Ahmad also explains an important difference between surgery and energy-based treatments.

In surgery, deeper structures are repositioned and excess tissue may be removed. Energy-based skin tightening, however, aims to stimulate tissue using heat and collagen remodelling, without the same surgical approach.

These treatments are not always straightforward, and local anaesthetic is usually required to ensure patient comfort.

They also do not replace surgery in every case.

Suitability depends on the patient, the skin, the degree of laxity, and what can realistically be achieved without an incision.

This underscores the importance of a consultation. Mr Ahmad will discuss the pros and cons, explain the capabilities of each treatment, and advise on the most appropriate option for the individual patient.

A mini facelift is often best understood by focusing on the lower face.

Not as a change to a single feature, but as an adjustment to how the soft tissues sit, how the jawline appears, and how the face maintains its structure over time.

In this before and after image, the difference is seen around the lower face, where tissue laxity can begin to create heaviness and reduce definition along the jawline.

The purpose of surgery in cases like this is not to create an obvious change. It is to restore support beneath the surface, adjust the skin where appropriate, and allow the lower face to sit in better balance with the rest of the face.

A mini facelift is not suitable for everyone. The planning depends on the patient's anatomy, skin quality, degree of laxity, and whether the level of correction needed can be achieved with a more limited procedure.

The result should not rely on the idea of looking ""done"". It should be seen in the way the face appears more settled, supported, and proportionate.

A small detail within the clinic.

If you've visited Cambridge Clear Beauty, you may have noticed this sculpture by the window.

It was created by Mr Ahmad.

Alongside his work as a Consultant Plastic Surgeon, he also has a strong artistic side, and this piece serves as a reminder that his understanding of the face extends beyond the operating theatre.

There is something personal about seeing a surgeon's own artwork in the space.

It offers a glimpse into how he views faces: not as a set of separate features, but rather as expression, character, structure, and detail, all working together.

It is also one of the clinic's details that makes the space feel more human.

Not just treatment rooms.
Not just consultations.
But a place shaped by the person behind the work.

Can skin be tightened without surgery?

In part one of this series, Mr Ahmad explains how certain non-surgical treatments use controlled micro-injury, energy, or a combination of both to improve skin quality over time.

Microneedling works by creating tiny injuries in the skin. These are not intended to scar, but to trigger inflammation and encourage collagen production, which plays an important role in skin structure and texture.

At Cambridge Clear Beauty, SkinPen may be used for concerns such as acne scarring and general skin texture.

Morpheus8 goes a step further by combining microneedling with radiofrequency energy. This adds heat beneath the skin, which can support collagen remodelling when delivered at the appropriate depth and temperature.

These treatments are not a replacement for surgery, but they may be useful where the concern is skin quality, texture, or mild laxity.

Treatment suitability depends on the individual, and results usually develop gradually over a course of sessions.

Stay tuned for part 2, where Mr Ahmad explains what these treatments can and cannot achieve.

Skin changes are often most noticeable in the small details.

In this before-and-after image, observe the improved texture and overall appearance of the skin around the lower face and cheek area following CACI treatment.

CACI is a non-surgical treatment that uses microcurrent technology to stimulate facial muscles and enhance the skin's appearance over time. It is a popular choice for patients seeking a treatment-led approach without surgery or injectables.

The aim is not to alter the face, but to work with the skin and underlying facial structure in a gradual manner.

As with any skin treatment, individual results vary depending on skin condition, treatment plan, and consistency of sessions.
