🖤 THE DAITH 🖤

A daith sits through the small fold of cartilage just above the ear canal. It’s a gorgeous, slightly hidden piercing that looks amazing with both a simple curved barbell and a statement ring — and it’s perfect for creating that stacked ear look. 🥰

But did you know there’s a bit of history behind the daith?

The piercing became popular as a modern body piercing in the 1990s, and it later became particularly well known because of claims that it could help people suffering from migraines.

🤕 DAITH & MIGRAINES — WHAT’S THE STORY?

You may have heard people say that a daith piercing can help with migraines.

The theory comes from the fact that the area of the ear where the daith sits is associated with an acupuncture pressure point. The idea is that having jewellery constantly sitting in this area could provide similar stimulation.

Some people swear that their migraines improved after getting their daith pierced — BUT, and this is important, there currently isn’t enough scientific evidence to say that daith piercings treat or prevent migraines. Any benefits reported so far are anecdotal, and researchers haven’t established that the piercing itself is responsible for the improvement. 🫶

So if you’re thinking about a daith because you’ve heard it can cure migraines, please don’t use it as a replacement for medical migraine treatment. ❤️
