17 September is World Patient Safety Day – a good moment to talk about who’s actually treating your skin.

Our Medical Director, Dr Maria Gonzalez, is a dermatologist with 20 years’ experience. She holds an MB BS, a DDSc and an MSc in Medical Education, and is an Honorary Consultant Dermatologist with Aneurin Bevan University Health Board, alongside her work at the clinic.

Her career has spanned academic dermatology at Cardiff University and clinical practice at

Mohs micrographic surgery is one of the most effective treatments available for skin cancer – and after a summer outdoors, September is a good time to know what it involves.

⁠Does UltraClear help with marionette lines?⁠

Yes, but it is case-dependent. If your skin still has a good foundation of collagen and elastin, UltraClear is fantastic for softening those lines. If you are experiencing more significant jowling due to deep structural volume loss, a surgical option or dermal fillers might be required to truly rebuild underlying support. ⁠

Is it unsafe for darker skin tones?

Traditional ablative lasers carry a risk of discolouration on melanin-rich skin. UltraClear is FDA-cleared for a wide range of Fitzpatrick skin types (I–VI).

Can you get UltraClear during an active breakout?⁠

If it’s a random, isolated blemish, yes. However, if you are experiencing chronic or cystic acne, we recommend addressing the active inflammation first.
