This Sunday 22nd March, colleagues from across Lloyd Motor Group will take on the Carlisle Half Marathon, raising vital funds for Cancer Research UK in tribute to our founder, Bryan Lloyd, and in support of everyone affected by cancer.

Our team has been training hard over the past several weeks, balancing early mornings, long runs and busy working lives, all for a cause that means so much to us.

On race day, our runners will wear shirts marking our journey towards 50 years of Lloyd Motor Group, with a bold 50 on the back and a special tribute to Bryan on the sleeve: “GLWD.”

Anyone who worked with Bryan will recognise those four letters, his way of saying Good lad or Good lass, well done.

As our team takes on the 13.1 miles, GLWD will be running with them, a reminder of Bryan’s encouragement, his belief in people, and the culture he built across Lloyd Motor Group.

💙 If you'd like to support our runners and help fund life-saving research, please donate or share, and help us to reach our target: https://tinyurl.com/bdzk98ad

In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), winter is associated with the water element and the kidneys, which are considered the root of vitality and the storehouse of essential energy, or Jing. The kidneys play a foundational role in maintaining overall health, governing growth, reproduction, and aging. Winter’s energy is introspective and restorative, making it the ideal season to nourish the kidneys and support the water element. During this time, practices that conserve energy and build warmth are emphasized to harmonize with nature’s slower, inward rhythm. The kidneys are particularly vulnerable to cold, which can deplete their energy and lead to imbalances such as fatigue, lower back pain, or weakened immunity. To protect and strengthen kidney health, TCM recommends lifestyle practices such as staying warm, eating nourishing foods like soups and stews, and engaging in gentle exercises like Tai Chi or Qigong to promote circulation. Hydration is also essential, as the kidneys rely on adequate water intake to filter and maintain balance in the body.Moxibustion, a TCM therapy involving the burning of dried mugwort (moxa) near specific acupuncture points, is particularly beneficial for kidney health during winter. This warming therapy stimulates the kidney meridian, helping to dispel cold, boost circulation, and replenish vital energy. Moxibustion can enhance the kidneys’ ability to store and regulate Jing, fortify the immune system, and improve overall vitality. It is especially effective for individuals experiencing signs of kidney deficiency, such as chronic fatigue, frequent urination, or cold extremities. Incorporating moxibustion into a winter wellness routine can provide deep, restorative benefits, aligning the body with the season’s energy and supporting long-term health.
