🍅 Mid and East Antrim children to benefit from Plot to Plate workshops 🍅

A series of fun, interactive Plot to Plate workshops will launch in October to give local children opportunities to gain hands-on experience growing food, cooking while learning about nutrition.

The workshops will welcome primary schools and community groups from across the Ballymena, Carrickfergus and Larne areas. With places limited, interested groups are encouraged to book early.

The programme forms part of our PEACEPLUS Local Action Plan and partner organisation AEL will deliver the workshops.

There are three ways you can get involved

Join us for one of our tree-themed nature art sessions, inspired by the beauty, importance and many benefits of our trees and woodlands.

Get hands-on with natural materials as you:

🌳 Create clay faces on tree trunks, using clay and natural materials to create a unique woodland display
🪵 Try twig weaving, using Y-shaped twigs and natural yarn to make your own natural artwork

Our libraries across Mid and East Antrim will be shining a light on trees and woodlands during Environment Week.

Pop into your local library and look out for tree-themed displays featuring books, natural materials and information about our Tree and Woodland Strategy.

It’s a chance to stop, have a look and find out more about the trees and woodlands on our doorstep. 🌳

We will share more info once the pop up tables are set up and good to go on Monday 28th!

🎨 THE TREES WE LOVE 💚

We’ve sent our ‘Trees We Love’ competition to primary schools across Mid and East Antrim!

We want to hear about the favourite trees of local primary school pupils — and, most importantly, why they’re special to them. 💚

Children can:
🎨 Draw or create artwork of their tree
📸 Take a photograph
✏️ Tell us why the tree is special to them

🏆 There’s a prize! One lucky class will win a tree-themed nature art session with local artist Janet Crymble, held at their school.

Men Who Grow🌱 A fantastic finish to a great programme 💚

Harryville Mens Shed

Today was the wrap-up session for the Men Who Grow programme with Harryville Men’s Shed! The participants spent a brilliant afternoon pricking out seedlings and potting on a massive batch of plants to get them ready for their next stage of growth.

Huge thanks to the member who set the pace and had so much potted on before we even started!

It’s been a fantastic programme filled with great company, hard work, and plenty of green-fingered success. 🪵🪴

Small actions. Big waves. 🌊

Marine Conservation Society Mid and East Antrim Borough Council

We joined Claire from the Marine Conservation Society at Carnlough Beach for a Beach Clean & Beachwatch litter survey as part of the Great British Beach Clean. 🧤🌊

Beachwatch is the Marine Conservation Society’s national citizen science programme, helping to build a picture of the litter found on beaches across the UK. By recording what we find, we can help highlight the scale and sources of marine litter and support action to tackle it.

The Great British Beach Clean is taking place from 18–27 September 2026, with hundreds of beach cleans happening all over the place.

A huge thank you to everyone who came along, rolled up their sleeves and helped care for our coastline. 💙

Every piece picked up, every item recorded and every person who gets involved helps create big waves of change.

Join us for a free, hands-on Peatland & Biodiversity Workshop at Keeran Moss! Explore local wildlife, learn about peatland history, and discover the vital conservation work happening through PeacePlus Nature.

Meeting Point: Woodburn Forest Upper Car Park (190 Woodburn Rd, Carrickfergus, BT38 9AQ) at 09.45 for bus transfer to the site.

What to Bring: Sturdy walking boots/wellies, weather-proof layers, water, and a packed lunch. (Tea, coffee & refreshments provided, bring a reusable cup!).

ℹ️ Important Info: Suitable for adults. Please note the terrain is uneven and off-path, making it unsuitable for prams, wheelchairs, or limited mobility. On-site toilet and shelter available.
