One of the questions I get asked most often since moving from the UK to Dubai is: “How much does school actually cost?” 🏫✨
So I thought I’d share our family’s real experience and the fees we’ve paid for our two boys to attend a British school in Dubai.
Just to add some context, our children go to a middle range school in terms of fees, and costs can vary hugely depending on the school you choose and your family’s circumstances. There are also additional expenses that some families may have, such as school lunches, buses, after school clubs or extra 1:1 support for SEN children.
We don’t currently use any of those services, so the figures in this carousel are simply what we have paid so far.
I hope this post helps anyone thinking about relocating to Dubai or trying to budget for family life here. 🤍

Moving to Dubai with a large dog has been one of the best decisions we’ve made… but it definitely comes with challenges too. 🐾
From pet relocation costs and paperwork to finding the right community, there’s a lot nobody really talks about before you move.
And then there’s the heat. For a big dog like Barnie, summer means planning our whole routine around the weather. Most walks happen either very early in the morning or late in the evening, when the pavements are finally cool enough for his paws.
We’ve also learnt that there are just a handful of cafés that welcome dogs.
But despite the challenges, we couldn’t imagine starting this new chapter without our fur baby by our side. 💛
If you’re thinking about moving to Dubai with a dog, I hope this gives you a more realistic picture of what to expect.

Thinking about renting in Dubai? 🇦🇪🏠
There are quite a few differences compared to the UK. From security deposits and white goods to post-dated cheques and repainting before moving out.
Some things genuinely surprised me when we moved here!
What difference surprised you the most? 👇

Before you move to Dubai… have a Plan B. 🇦🇪
One thing I personally wouldn’t rush into is selling my property back home.
Moving abroad is exciting, but it’s also a huge life change. Sometimes people love it, sometimes circumstances change, jobs change, family situations change, or they simply decide they want to go back.
Having somewhere to return to can provide peace of mind and financial security.
Of course, everyone’s situation is different, and this isn’t financial advice. It’s simply one of the things I’d seriously consider if I were moving again.
Would you sell your home before relocating abroad, or would you keep it as a backup plan?
👇 I’d love to hear your thoughts.

GET A WATER FILTER! 🚿💧
If I could give one piece of advice to anyone moving to Dubai, it would be this: install a good water filter.
The water here is very hard and high in minerals like calcium. Many expats (myself included) notice that it leaves hair feeling dry, frizzy and more prone to breakage, and it can also make skin feel drier. Hair loss is also very common here.
Do your research before choosing a company. Ask for recommendations in your community WhatsApp groups and speak to other expats who have actually used the system.
Unfortunately, we got scammed. We’re now stuck with a filtration system that requires replacement cartridges every 3 months, making it much more expensive than we were originally promised.
A good system should come with a fair maintenance plan. For example, you may be able to find companies offering free cartridges for the first year, with replacements needed only every 6 months.
And no… that little Amazon shower filter alone isn’t enough. Trust me. 🥲
